    Job Title: Division and Camper Care Manager

     

    Daily Rate: $230

     

    Supervisor: Associate Director, Youth Programs

    New Country Day Camp is a 7-week, outdoor summer camp for campers in kindergarten-8th grade. NCDC operates M-F, 8am-5pm, and provides transportation for staff and campers to and from our campgrounds on Staten Island via multiple locations throughout Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. NCDC is a neurodiverse camp community, and all staff members are responsible for supporting neurodivergent and neurotypical campers and staff to have successful summers.

    JOB PURPOSE

    Reporting to the Associate Director for New Country Day Camp, the Division and Camper Care Manager will supervise Division Supervisors for the seven age divisions at camp and coordinate projects, logistics, systems and trainings that will prepare them and their staff to successfully execute their crucial roles at camp in the areas of customer service, staff supervision, and camper care. Required to attend staff orientation on weekday evenings and two weekend days in June.

    SCOPE OF INFLUENCE

    + Direct client group: Division Staff

    + Directly Supervises: Division Supervisors (7)

    + Will collaborate closely with Division Staff, Inclusion Staff, Full-time camp staff, Program Staff, Operations, Office, and Key Staff

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Pre-Camp Planning

     

    + Support Associate Director in interviewing and selecting candidates for Division Supervisor positions

    + Work with leadership team to create and update staff trainings for direct reports and their division counselors for staff orientation beginning in June

    + Work with leadership team to develop plans for large scale events including staff orientation, pre-camp tours, pre-camp family meet and greet, Shabbat, rain days, etc.

    + Oversee grouping process for 800+ campers and flag for allergies, behavioral issues, and friend requests

    + Collaborate with Community Engagement Manager and Associate Director to update and share Family Handbook with families in the weeks leading up to camp

    + Be present at all Staff Orientations and family events

    + Collaborate with various members of leadership team to create staff trainings with a specific focus on families and camper care, as well as child development, counselor job responsibilities, and working with neurodivergent campers

     

    At Camp

     

    + Meet weekly with Division Supervisors for formal check ins, conduct daily informal check ins, and mentor them throughout the summer.

    + Manage completion of all Division Supervisors’ weekly tasks

    + Oversee communications and maintain high quality of customer service between Division staff and families during the camp season

    + Serve as point person for elevated camper needs and parent communication

    + Collaborate with Support Program Manager daily to ensure needs of all campers are met through a successful Division Supervisor and Support Supervisor partnership

    + Collaborate with leadership team to ensure staff are set up for success to meet camper needs

    + In collaboration with Programs Manager and Division Supervisors, oversee lower camp programming logistics and overall programmatic needs

    + Gather weekly summaries from Division Teams regarding programmatic updates to share with Community Engagement Manager for weekly blog and email content

    + Ensure Division Supervisors adequately prepare counselors to work with their specific campers from session to session

    + Maintain and exhibit a role of leadership at all times as a member of NCDC’s Key Staff

    + Be present at all days of orientation, camp and staff meetings during the camp season

    + Proactively problem solve and motivate colleagues as difficult moments present themselves throughout the camp season; encourage flexibility and understanding as means to achieve common goals

    + Establish and promote a commitment to the mission and vision of New Country Day Camp

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Required Knowledge

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field, Masters preferred

    + Outstanding written and oral communications skills

    + Experience as a leader in an educational setting, or similar experience

    + Experience in a camp setting, either as a camper, staff member, or in another capacity

    + Previous supervisory experience, preferably with teens and young adults

    + Highly organized with strong attention to details and an eye for developing efficient, internal systems and workflow

    + Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities to meet deadlines

    + Can begin minimal part-time work in March or April and can attend all days of Staff Orientation and camp starting early June through August 15th
