Position Overview:
The Facilities Technician will work under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, supporting activities related to the mechanical, electrical, technical and technology systems within the public and private areas of the facility, grounds, and off-site offices.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities:
+ Assist in the upkeep and maintenance of all areas of the museum building, grounds, and off-site offices.
+ Perform a wide variety of general and semi-skilled maintenance activities.
+ Perform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks as directed.
+ Identify and correct building and equipment problems by performing basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, HVAC work, etc.
+ Investigate and report defects, damages, and malfunctions to the Facilities Manager.
+ Examine environmental control and stationary systems to diagnose problems using proper inspection/testing and monitoring techniques while exhibiting safe and proper use of tools.
+ Report hazards and initiate appropriate action as required.
+ Keep maintenance records as directed.
+ Maintain a clean and safe workplace during and after performing maintenance tasks.
+ Arrange for purchase and/or pick-up of supplies and equipment as needed.

+ Other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or equivalent GED.
+ Experience performing light trouble shooting of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, machinery, and other equipment.
+ Must demonstrate the ability to effectively manage time, meet deadlines, and coordinate work functions with coworkers.
+ Good communication skills.
+ A team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
+ Basic computer skills.
+ Ability to work with a wide variety of hand tools and power-tools.
+ Comfort working at heights (on ladders, etc.), and in confined spaces.
+ Physical ability to traverse the building and grounds, and to perform physical work which may include lifting, pulling, carrying, standing, crawling, etc.
+ Must be able to lift and carry awkwardly shaped items up to 75 pounds.
+ Schedule availability must include occasional overnights, weekends, and early mornings.
+ Must be comfortable working with a variety of chemicals including cleaning products, adhesives, etc.
+ Must be 18 years of age.
+ A valid driver’s license in good standing is preferred.
