In this position...
The Systems Engineering & Integration teams at Ford Motor Company Advanced EV are responsible for the design, integration, and testing of all core vehicle features & functions including charging, thermal management, motion controls, fault handling, mode management, and more. This role is focused on systems engineering & systems integration for functions related to Power & Mode Management, Health & Fault Management, and Vehicle Access. This includes development of feature architectures & requirements, functional architectures & requirements, and all associated supporting deliverables (test plans, analysis, triage, and more). We specialize in parallelized development of prototype functionality and production designs, enabling Advanced EV to rapidly develop feature intent functionality without incurring significant technical debt.
This role also includes collaborating with our Functional Safety team to ensure the product meets the safety caliber set forth within the company by leveraging existing standards but also creating novel safety approaches to achieve high quality. Our team is responsible for the entire safety lifecycle during the core development and application of the system into a serial-production vehicle.
Our team leverages a variety of backgrounds, ranging from robotics, systems engineering, high performance software development, embedded and industrial software engineering, hardware engineering, vehicle engineering, battery management, & more.
+ Lead the systems engineering & safety engineering of the Health/Fault Management & Vehicle Access features
+ Support parallel feature owners such as Power & Mode Management
+ Write functional requirements & functional architecture for the performance of our Health/Fault Manager and Vehicle Access features
+ Decompose to technical requirements & architecture
+ Write safety requirements to meet the ISO 26262 standard
+ Perform relevant analysis (e.g. DFMEA)
+ Work closely with the V&V teams to develop and execute the Design Verification Plan for respective features & functions
+ Get hands-on with the product and see the designs in action!
+ Support early prototype integration & test milestones, including hands-on triage & root cause analysis to further improve requirements & designs. Partner closely with software, hardware, bring-up, & testing teams.
+ Work with project management to develop, document, and allocate various teams’ resources for the initiation and implementation of systems & safety processes and improvements
What you'll do...
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or a related field
+ 7+ years of relevant industry experience at a minimum [1]
+ Experience working in production applications of health management & diagnostics
+ Experience writing functional requirements
+ Experience writing safety requirements to meet ISO 26262 or similar standards
+ Strong record working in the field of system safety as it relates to software design and development
+ Strong engineering communication skills, especially the ability to communicate complex engineering issues to a diverse team
+ Experience with safety related operating systems (RTOS) and runtime software environments, as well as Linux
+ Proven experience in developing embedded software on a resource-constrained compute platform.
+ Ability to design software components and systems and clearly communicate your designs through documents, diagrams, and presentations.
+ Strong ability to quickly understand complex systems and perform systematic software analysis
+ Practical experience with systems engineering methods applied to complex software systems, including systematic system or software analysis (e.g. FMEA, FTA, DFA, attack tree analysis)
+ Knowledge of automotive functional safety standards (ISO-26262 or similar)
+ Experience in safety-critical software development processes
+ Strong systems engineering fundamentals
You'll have...
+ Experience with qualified tool chains, requirements traceability, documentation management, configuration management and change management systems is a major plus
+ Experience with code generation or compilers
+ Experience creating software tools to analyze logged data and root-cause events
+ Familiarity with requirements management tools (ex: Jama)
+ Experience with Python, C++, or other programming skills
