Job Description:
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of the laboratory department, including direct reports, regulatory requirements, and technical processes. These caregivers have significant experience and knowledge of laboratory operations and caregiver engagement.Scope
1.Supervises the technical and operational management of the Laboratory Operations,Specimen Processing, and Send-out Testing areas. Collaborates with department leadership team to evaluate service needs and volumes and adjust staffing levels accordingly. Assigns daily work schedules. Acts as a resource technician in the daily operations and activities of the department. Performs duties of phlebotomy and specimen processing as required.
2. Develops, implements and trains on new technology for department. Directs and coordinates training of new employees. Oversees supply and equipment inventory to maintain optimal supply levels and ensure equipment repairs and preventative maintenance occur in a timely manner.
3. Supports the department leadership team in problem solving to address issues relating to patient safety, care and service. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team and interdepartmentally to facilitate that departments ability to meet its goals and objective. Ensures coordination of care with other departments to promote the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.
4. Assists with Human Resource management functions including interviewing, selection, orientation, education/training, feedback, performance evaluation, and policy and procedure development. Assists in updating and maintaining personnel files. Ensures associate competency. Maintains and monitors Kronos records for employees. Presents and documents staff meetings as required. Assists in development of capital planning and operating budgets.
5. Manages send outs for specialty testing to reference labs. Coordinates communication with physician. Manages test compendium application for the care site.
6. Collaborates with the department leadership team to identify and drive quality and performance improvement initiatives. Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Maintains section readiness for Joint Commission, CAP or CLIA inspections.
7. Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalent is required
Three (3) years of phlebotomy experience, including previous formal/informal lead experience is required Associates level degree may substitute for up to one (1) years of the required phlebotomy experience Bachelors level degree may substitute for up to two (2) years of the requiered phlebotomy experience
Preferred
Associates or Bachelors degree is preferred
Phlebotomy certification is preferred Med Tech preferred

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
$23.25 - $35.89
