Job Description:
The Patient Care Technician functions as a clinical support partner, assisting the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. Additionally, the Patient Care Technician may assume the responsibilities of a health unit coordinator.
*This position requires a current Colorado CNA License*
The Telemetry unit is a specialized area in the hospital that focuses on the care and treatment of patients with heart-related conditions. Our floor is a 36 bed unit that also serves as a step-down ICU and plays a crucial role in our hospital by providing higher levels of care for patients who have undergone significant cardiac procedures or who are experiencing cardiac issues. We handle a diverse range of patients, including those who have had open heart surgery, heart failure, heart attacks, sepsis, cardiac arrhythmias, and respiratory failure. We are open to experienced CNAs or ones who are new to their role!

Scope
+ Responds to patient care needs by answering call lights, assisting patients with hygiene care, obtaining vital signs, and communicating constructively, effectively and timely with members of the care team.
+ Performs 12-lead EKG duties commensurate with the level of training received and competency.
+ Apply, check and document restraints as directed by the RN or physician.
+ Performs wound care, stoma care, and specimen collection.
+ Performs equipment and tube care/management e.g. JPs, hemovacs and nasogastric tubes, and Foley removal.
+ Assists with patient transfers, admissions and discharges as directed and in compliance with the principles of safe patient handling.
+ Orders and maintains office and patient care floor stock/supplies.
+ Performs the duties of unit secretary. Maintains patient charts, responds to phone calls, maintains daily assignment board, provides equipment care/cleaning, performs errands associated with patient care and provides accurate information about the patient with interdisciplinary team.
+ Assist physicians and RNs as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
+ Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program
+ Certification as a Nursing Assistant (C N A ) in the state of practice
+ Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP)certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval
Preferred
+ 1+ years of previous experience in a health care setting

Strong oral and written communication skills. Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required. Ability to work nights and/or weekends is required for identified positions.
Physical Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
+ Current C.N.A. Certification OR the following apply if working in the State of Utah:
+ Completion of nursing assistant training program. Verification of nursing assistant training program completion required _and_ C.N.A. certification required within 120 days of hire.

+ Completion of a fundamentals of nursing class with a passing grade within the past two (2) years. Official transcript required to verify completion of class _and_ C.N.A. certification required within 120 days of hire.
For those hired into a skilled nursing facility or long-term care center, obtaining a C.N.A. certification within 120 days allowed only if the new hire has never been a C.N.A. in Utah. If previously certified, hire must have a current and valid C.N.A. certification before the start date.
+ Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers
+ Demonstrated basic computer literacy skills
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
+ Prior C.N.A. or applicable healthcare experience
+ Current enrollment in nursing school program
Physical Requirements
+ Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
+ Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
+ Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
+ Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
+ Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
+ May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
+ For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
