    Summary

    **SUMMARY:** An endoscopy technician works alongside physicians and nurses who diagnose and treat patients for gastrointestinal or respiratory issues using an endoscope Performs assistance duties during basic to advanced endoscopic procedures; generally, operates and utilizes endoscopic equipment and devices, as well as performs processing & high-level disinfection of routine upper & lower endoscopes and high-level disinfection of non-disposable equipment. Operates equipment for processing and high-level disinfection of equipment, including performing daily quality control and maintains accurate documentation.Initiates purchase orders for all devices and supplies, as well as engineering, biomed, and vendor related work orders. Transports patients. Manages and maintains endoscopic equipment, supplies and devices.

    **DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:** NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

    1. An endoscopy technician works alongside physicians and nurses who diagnose and treat patients for gastrointestinal or respiratory issues using an endoscope.

    2. Performs assigned procedural assisting duties during endoscopic procedures; assists the proceduralist physicianin performing advanced endoscopic procedures including interventional ERCP (GI) and EBUS (Pulmonary) utilizing minimally invasive techniques as directed to remove polyps, collects and handle specimens, among other specialty specific procedures performed withendoscope, a small flexible tube with a light and camera attached.

    3. Prepares procedure room and equipment for endoscopic procedures and clean up and sterilize after procedures. Maintains endoscopic equipment including cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and calibrating instruments according to manufacturer guidelines.

    4. Perform processing & high-level disinfection of routine upper & lower endoscopes and high-level disinfection of non-disposable equipment. Operates equipment for processing and high-level disinfection of equipment including performing daily quality control and maintains accurate documentation. Store all endoscopes with appropriate tags in proper endoscope storage areas.

    5. Initiates purchase orders for all devices and supplies in Lawson or otherwise for endoscopic supplies and devices. Follows all AHS Policies & Standard Work Guidelines for reprocessing and transport endoscopes explicitly.

    6. Complete vendor processes and mail out all damaged endoscopes to the vendor as required.

    7. Initiate all engineering, biomed, and vendor related work orders as needed on a timely basis.

    8. Ensures all supplies and devices stored in the procedure or decontamination room are never expired and complete all required handwritten notations on required supplies with accurate and legible dates and times are accurate. Disposes of all expired devices and supplies appropriately.

    9. Complete and maintain all required assigned logs in unit including, but not limited to intake, supply room, decontamination room, and unit intra-procedural areas.

    10. Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    _Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying._

     

    Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent; graduation from an accredited school of Surgical Technology; Completion of a G.I. and or Pulmonary Endoscopy program or an accredited Surgical Technician program.

     

    Preferred Education: Completion of a GI and or Pulmonary Endoscopy program or an accredited Surgical Technician program.

     

    Required Experience: Two years’ GI or Pulmonary Endoscopy experience.

     

    Preferred Experience: Advanced endoscopy (i.e., ERCP) procedure experience

     

    Preferred Licenses/Certifications: Valid Certified Surgical Tech (CST) or Surgery-Certified Credential (TS-C) from CAAHEP or ABHES certification.

     

    Preferred Licenses/Certifications: Certified as a Medical Assistant.

     

    Required Licenses/Certifications: BLS – Basic Life Support certification issued by AHA.

     

    Continuing Medical Education: Formal evidence of successful completion of no less than 20 hours of pre-approved continuing relevant in-person or online medical education courses per calendar year to meet minimum annual AHS determined competency requirements. Evidence of successful certificates of completion to be submitted to department manager within each calendar year. Approved SGNA CME courses specific to assisting GI & Pulmonary endoscopy procedures and/or endoscope decontamination and reprocessing would apply.

     

    PayRange:$57.64- $57.64/ Hour

     

    _The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be_ _determined_ _based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization. Alameda Health System also offers eligible_ _positions_ _a generous comprehensive benefits program._

     

    Additional Information

     

    Note: Support GI Endoscopy; possibly Pain Management procedures for busy outpatient and inpatient unit. Possible standby assignments weekends (24 hours on call) and weekday evenings to support ICU & ED cases. M - F Days 10-hour shifts.
