Description:
Position Summary:
The Sergeant coordinates and monitors daily security assignments and security officer performance, responding to escalated situations, including thefts and critical incidents. They ensure thorough documentation of security operations and contribute to officer training and performance assessments.
Hours | Schedule:
+ Full-time, 40 hours
+ Days | 7am - 3 pm
What the Sergeant, Security will do:
+ Acts as team leader under supervision of a Security Lieutenant and assists in leading team through standards of operations.
+ Acts as lead Security representative in absence of Security Lieutenant.
+ Holds team accountable to achieving objectives and duties.
+ Ensures teams are adequately trained and equipped.
+ Partners with Nursing to round on clinical units and respond to calls requiring assistance.
+ Monitors and evaluates work areas and shift postings and makes revisions as necessary.
+ Leads shift briefings and huddles.
+ Ensures that security staff rotate patrol areas.
+ Conducts patrols in all patient areas. Covers for security staff as needed.
+ Responds to elevated situation calls, including combative patient calls.
+ Investigates thefts and other critical situations.
+ Reviews security operations documentation.
+ Assists with disciplinary situations and performance reviews.
+ Provides specialized training to Security Officers.
+ Acts as a shift liaison with external agencies – e.g.; Police, Fire – in the absence or by the direction of leadership.
What the Sergeant, Security will need:
+ Two years of experience as a Police Officer, Public Safety Officer, Corrections, School Security, Hospital Security, Public Act 330 Security Police Officer, Corporate Security or Military Police. May consider other experience related to security and law enforcement.
+ Associate's degree in criminal justice or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Valid driver's license AND must be insurable under Trinity Health liability insurance guidelines with an acceptable driving record.
+ No criminal record.
+ Possess or be able to obtain State of Michigan Concealed Pistol License (CPL).
+ Ability to complete training in Chemical Agent Sprays, Electronic Control Devices (ECD), handcuffs/restraints Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) and various less then lethal techniques.
+ Ability to carry or lift up to 30 lbs routinely, and on occasion up to 50 pounds (20% of time). Ability to push or pull over 50 pounds occasionally (20% of time).
+ Preferred: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field
+ Preferred: Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) certifiable.
+ Preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS). First Aid - (FIRSTAID). Licenses - Certification as a Security Police Officer under Public Act 330.
+ Preferred: Four years of experience in environment of comparable size and complexity. Trinity Health Senior Security Officer for at least 6 months. Military experience.
Credentials/Training:
Must complete the following certifications/trainings within six months of hire:
+ IAHSS Basic Certification
+ CPR, HERT, Taser training, OC training
+ IAHSS Advance Certification
+ CPI and PPCT
