Job Description
The Research Technician I, under general supervision performs entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks.Duties and responsibilities:
+ Prepares samples, solvents, buffers, and reagents for several experiments.
+ Plans and runs time and temperature sensitive enzyme assay experiments and records data and observations
+ Analyzes samples for in vitro protein and starch digestibility and glycemic index profiles for cooked and raw samples using enzyme assays.
+ Extracts nutrients and other componenets from different biological matrices.
+ Analyzes samples using HPLC and UV-Vis for phenolic compounds extracted from food and food byproducts.
+ Characterizes Food samples using Rapid Visco analyzer (RVA), GlutoPeak, Chroma Colorimeter and Texture Profile Analyzer.
+ Coordinates student workers and laboratory facilities as well as routine tasks.
+ Learning about and implementing Good Laboratory and Housekeeping Practices for compliance with existing/emerging rules, and regulations.
+ Regularly cleans and maintains laboratory facilities and workspaces.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Two years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
+ Associate or bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or related field.
+ Research experience working with enzymes, particularly proteases and amylases, UV-Vis spectroscopy and Chromatography (HPLC, LC/MS).
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Basic computer skills (data entry in MS excel), summary report in power point and word processor.
+ Attention to details, understanding guidance and directions, meeting deadlines, organized.
+ Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
