Description

We are looking for an experienced Director of Payroll to join our team in Oakland, California. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This position offers an opportunity to lead a dynamic team while driving improvements in payroll processes and systems.

Responsibilities:

+ Oversee timely and accurate payroll processing for US and Canada.

+ Define and implement payroll strategy, team structure, and efficient, compliant processes.

+ Collaborate with global teams on payroll practices across UK, China, India, and Europe.

+ Manage payroll-related accounting, including reconciliations and financial reporting coordination.

+ Partner with Finance and Accounting during month-end close and post-close analysis.

+ Ensure compliance with payroll tax laws and timely filing at all jurisdictional levels.

+ Stay updated on payroll legislation; implement changes as needed.

+ Maintain documented payroll processes with strong internal controls.

+ Respond to internal/external audit requests and address findings.

+ Communicate risks and challenges to leadership with prompt solutions.

+ Lead payroll system implementation in new ERP setup.

+ Manage vendor relationships and associated budgets.

+ Co-lead global transition away from ADP WFN payroll systems.

+ Foster strong partnerships with People, Total Rewards, IT, Legal, and Finance teams.

+ Provide payroll support for benefits and equity plan administration.

+ Drive process improvements with cross-functional collaboration.

+ Promote a high-performance, communicative, and team-oriented work culture.

Requirements

+ Bachelor's degree required; CPP certification preferred.

+ 10+ years of payroll leadership in large/public companies (500+ employees); CPG and global experience a plus.

+ Skilled in managing both exempt and non-exempt employee payrolls.

+ Comfortable working in fast-paced, startup-like environments.

+ In-depth knowledge of U.S. and multi-state payroll compliance and reporting.

+ Experience with payroll system implementation is preferred.

+ Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint).

+ Familiar with virtual training/delivery tools like Zoom and Teams.

+ Highly independent yet collaborative, adaptable, and able to manage shifting priorities.

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional presentations.

+ Demonstrates integrity, confidentiality, and ethical accountability.

+ Intermediate Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables, sum functions).
