Candela develops products for the global aesthetic market. These products begin as concepts developed by Candela’s world-class team of scientists and engineers or as acquired or licensed technologies. These programs are supported by Candela’s global business unit, clinical, regulatory, and quality teams and are managed through our Product Development Process (PDP) and Quality Management System (QMS).
The Company’s headquarters are in Marlborough, Massachusetts, US, with an additional R&D facility in Yokneam, Israel and commercial locations across Asia Pacific, and Europe. Products are sold direct in 18 countries worldwide and through distributors in over 60 others and are supported by field sales, field service, clinical education and marketing organizations.
Job Summary Overview and Job Responsibilities
In this position, the Senior Director, Global Compensation and Benefits (C&B) is an active member of the HR Management Team and Corporate Operating Committee. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing an organization’s total rewards strategy, programs, and services which includes overseeing salary structures, incentive programs, health and wellness benefits, retirement plans, and other employee incentives in accordance with local labor regulations within the countries Candela operates. The individual ensures the company remains competitive in the job market while staying compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
In this position, the Sr. Director strategizes (with the CHRO) to align global compensation and benefit programs with the organization’s strategic direction, annual planning, and delivers on upon agreed annual objectives.
1) C&B policies with the company's business objectives. Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s global compensation and benefits programs.
A. Compensation (40% of time)
a) Prepares job descriptions, conducts job and salary analysis, and job evaluation and validation; uses the Company’s selected salary survey company (Aon-Radford) for market relevancy and salary guidance
b) Conducts salary surveys benchmarking (survey renewal – Radford), establishes and refines job level structures, develops annual merit and bonus budgets and bonus plan design to include bonus measures and weightings by job levels
c) Evaluates and provided market benchmark and demographics data for the use of decision making for jobs, employee morale, and market competitiveness
d) Manages the annual compensation cycle which includes planning, AOP budget accruals, system preparation, compensation annual training, compensation statements, communication, and works with external vender to ensure the functionality of the system; and advises exchange rates fluctuations and includes in all reporting and programs impacted
e) Ensures program standardization – customization of salary programs only when needed based on local country requirements, manages and refines policies, procedures, and monthly salary and human capital reports to ensure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation – includes salary discrimination testing affecting diversity
f) In collaboration with HR operations, manages and maintains Candela’s HR-HCM employee master data system; interfaces with IT for Oracle system, Taleo, People Box patches and updates
g) Collaborate with the finance team for cross-reference of cost-centers for HCM master-employee data reporting
h) Co-collaborates on equity (Deal Bonus Plan) and bonus plan design and administration, and annual service award administration and management
i) Reviews, refines, and communicates annual compensation governance
j) Maintains a working knowledge of federal, state, and multi-country legislation influencing compensation and benefits as well as international economic affecting Candela’s remuneration policies
k) Leads and develops global compensation through leveraging a cross-matrix HR team
l) Ensures HR compliance and corporate governance; and informs CHRO on key issues in a timely manner
m) Overseas Canada and U.S. payroll and required 5500 reporting for both the 401k and health care programs, annually
B. Benefits (40% of time)
a. Evaluates, monitors, and maintains (monthly) the company’s benefits programs which includes and is not limited to insurance programs, retirement plans, leave benefits (sick and flexible vacation) and said policies; manages identified vender relationships
b. Ensures programs (program recommendations) are current regarding market trends, practices, and cost effectiveness, globally. Coordinates vendor management, wellness and health education initiatives. Negotiates coverage services and costs with carriers
c. Manages and maintains HR SharePoint for all benefits and master benefits plan by country with focus on renewal time periods (a rolling six (6)-month outlook), vender contacts
d. Collaborates with HR Operations in the selection, administration, and maintenance of talent management systems (including compensation and HRIS management systems – HCM Employee Data, Taleo, and People Box)
e. Managing global and regional communication
2) Collaborate with HR Operations and manage global compensation and benefit analytics on a monthly cadence to include reporting and interpretation, including but not limited to diversity / equal opportunity employment, annual sustainability reporting, restructuring initiatives in a compliant manner. Co-manages external vender relationship (Zensar); makes recommendation for program enhancement and cost savings (20% of time)
3) Available for other human resources work assignments as directed, e.g. philanthropic awareness day, M&A, education comunication, employee survey, ELT Member support
This position is viewed as a corporate business partner with deep-technical expertise and experience and interface daily with the legal and finance teams, operating committee, senior executive leadership team (as requested), and all internal HR colleagues and employees.
Knowledge/Educational Requirements
• BA or B.S. degree required; (MBA optional)
• Minimum of seven plus (7+) year’s deep experience in Compensation, Benefits, or General Global Human Resources
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience and senior responsibility reporting to Senior Officer and responsible for human resources
• Experience in developing strategies for changing economics, demographics in successfully leading compensation and benefits with HRIS familiarity
• Exhibits conceptual thinking capability to solve complex problems; effectively able to deal with managing conflict; demonstrate analytical insights regarding the competitive landscape for compensation and benefit perspectives
• Understands market dynamics and key business drivers and able to implement changing and planned directives in a compliant manner, in the medical device sector in the aesthetics industry
• Able to manage budgets and execute plans
• Execute analytical, financial & skills required to analyze and recommend compensation and benefits strategies
• Exhibits excellent presentation skills and the ability to drive groups to consensus
• Work effectively within a highly matrixes organization; able to collaborate, lead a team and drive decisions
• Has strong project management, interpersonal, negotiation /influencing and collaboration skills
• Hands-on, roll up the sleeves leader who understands how to get things done, self-starter
• Action oriented, doer’ who enjoys high engagement versus administrator and delegator
• Advanced computer program skills: Microsoft windows (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Outlook)
• Conversant in the English language
