    Job Title: Physical Therapy Assistant

     

    Department: Physical Therapy

     

    Hours Per Week: Per diem

     

    Schedule: 7.5 hour shift

     

    SUMMARY: Provides physical therapy treatments under the supervision of a physical therapist. Documents treatments as per department standards. Monitors response to treatment. Participates in multidisciplinary activities. Participates in continuing education programs within as well as outside the hospital. Provides supervision to students during their affiliation. Participates in quality improvement programs and projects.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Has completed or maintained clinical skills consistent with PTA skills checklist. Demonstrates knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and diagnosis of the patients served

    + Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.

    + Implement physical therapy treatments as planned and directed by a physical therapist.

    + Involves the patient, family, and staff in the

    + treatment program. Develops clinical skills to

    + assure current practice standards.

    + Implements appropriate treatment programs. Provides written home instruction and/or assistive equipment, if needed.

    + Maintains complete documentation of patients' treatment, progress, and discharge status. Sends required information to appropriate professionals.

    + Demonstrate good and safe patient care techniques.

    + Consistently strives to be a productive member of the institution, and always puts time to good use.

    + Charge patients according to the treatment and time spent.

    + Inspires confidence from patients, families and staff by performing and communicating in a highly professional manner at all times.

    + Actively participates in rehabilitation team efforts to meet patient needs, including, but not limited to, counseling and teaching patients and their families, discussing changes in treatment programs with MD’s, coordinating health care plans with other involved health professionals, and assists in discharge planning as appropriate.

    + Actively pursues a planned program for personal and professional development. Strives to keep current on advances in the field via professional publications, conferences, classes, and consultation with other professionals. Independently participates in available facility learning experiences.

    + Attend scheduled hospital and department conferences and meetings.

    + Assist with the supervision and guidance of new personnel, assistants, students, and volunteers as assigned. Report progress or problems as appropriate.

    + Assist with implementation of new program and procedures. Incorporate new ideas and procedures into your treatment programs.

    + Assist in maintaining treatment area and equipment. Assist other therapists as needed.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required Degree

    + Two year college degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant

    Required Certification/Licensure

    + New York State PTA License

    Required Years of Experience

    + 3 months experience derived through educational field work

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + 1 year experience with frail elderly population

    EDUCATION:

    LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:

    PTA - Physical Therapist Assistant certification - New York State Education Department (NYSED)

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

    $22.00 - $33.00

    The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
