    Position Description

    Serco Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented **Systems Administrator** to provide hands-on support to the IT Operations Team. This role is ideal for a candidate looking to grow their skills in systems administration, network operations, and IT infrastructure management. The selected individual will assist in maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving the organization’s server, storage, and network environments while ensuring operational excellence and security compliance.

     

    This role will also assist in establishment and implementation of technical procedures, processes, documentation and standards for system and server platform, optimum performance, and recoverability of these services.

     

    This position is open to work in our Serco office in Northern Virginia - Hybrid Schedule (May consider fully remote work schedule)

    In this role you will:

    + Assist in the discovery, provisioning, maintenance, and monitoring of physical and virtual servers

    + Perform basic system administration tasks, including patching, backups, and user account management

    + Support storage systems by monitoring capacity, performance, and resolving minor issues

    + Participate in the automation of routine tasks using scripting (e.g., PowerShell)

    + Help update and maintain documentation for systems, configurations, and processes

    + Support network monitoring by analyzing traffic, latency, and performance metrics

    + Assist in configuring and troubleshooting network devices such as switches, routers, and access points

    + Collaborate in the maintenance of firewalls, VPNs, and other network security systems

    + Participate in basic network troubleshooting to resolve connectivity issues

    + Help document network configurations and operational procedures

    + Respond to service requests and incidents, providing timely resolution or escalation as required

    + Contribute to the setup and configuration of new IT infrastructure (e.g., servers, storage, network devices)

    + Collaborate with Server and Network teams on larger projects, such as system upgrades or network refresh initiatives

    + Ensure compliance with organizational policies and security best practices

    + Support the implementation of tagging and inventory tracking for IT assets

    Qualifications

    To be successful in this role, you will have:

    + **US Citizenship required**

    + The ability to travel up to 10%

    + Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as engineering or computer science

    + Minimum 4 years of experience in IT systems administration, network support, or a related role

    + Basic knowledge of Windows Server and Linux operating systems

    + Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)

    + Understanding of basic networking concepts (e.g., IP addressing, VLANs, firewalls)

    + Experience with troubleshooting tools and techniques for systems and networks

    + Experience with IT monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios)

    + Familiarity with ITIL practices for incident and change management

    + Exposure to cloud environments (e.g., Azure, AWS)

    + Proven experience working with the TCP/IP stack and related services

    + Proven experience working with DNS, DHCP, and IP addressing schemes

    + Comprehensive knowledge of server hardware and cabling

    + General knowledge of systems administration and virtualization technology principles and practices

    + Experience with Key Performance Indicators **(KPIs)**

    + Timely resolution of assigned tickets and incidents

    + Accuracy and completeness of documentation updates

    + Contribution to project milestones within defined timelines

    + Adherence to security and compliance standards

    Additional desired experience and skills:

    + Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) is a plus

    + Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

    + Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

    + Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

    + Eagerness to learn and grow in a dynamic IT environment

    In compliance with state and local laws regarding pay transparency, the salary range for this role is $67,889.77 to $113,149.62; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
