Job Summary/Basic Function
About This Role:
The Director of Curriculum and Accreditation provides high-level strategic leadership in the design, management, and continuous improvement of Lamar University’s academic curriculum and institutional accreditation processes. Reporting to the Executive Director of DARpA, the Director leads initiatives to ensure alignment with institutional goals, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards—most notably those of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges ( SACSCOC ). This position is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of curriculum proposals, coordinating institutional responses to accreditation reviews, and developing sustainable systems for documenting academic compliance and effectiveness. The Director partners closely with faculty, department chairs, and senior academic leaders to support evidence-based academic innovation while ensuring regulatory compliance. Serving as a key advisor on curriculum and accreditation matters, the Director also facilitates training, leads university committees, and represents the institution in key external forums.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
+ Curriculum Proposal Management
+ Coordinate and shepherd curriculum proposals through all approval processes including campus review, Texas State University System, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and accreditor approvals.
+ Provide guidance to academic departments in proposal development and maintain comprehensive documentation of all curriculum changes.
+ SACSCOC Accreditation Leadership
+ Serve as principal strategist for SACSCOC accreditation, including preparing comprehensive reports, coordinating evidence collection, and leading preparation activities for reaffirmation and substantive change processes.
+ Faculty and Staff Consultation
+ Provide expert consultation to faculty and academic leadership on curriculum design and accreditation requirements. Conduct training sessions and develop resources to support curriculum development.
+ Policy Development and Implementation
+ Lead policy development related to curriculum processes and accreditation compliance.
+ Establish guidelines and templates that facilitate innovation while ensuring adherence to institutional and external requirements.
+ Documentation Management
+ Maintain comprehensive systems for curriculum and accreditation documentation, including evidence repositories, tracking systems, and knowledge bases that serve as resources for the university community.
+ Committee Leadership and Participation
+ Serve on and potentially chair university committees related to curriculum, assessment, and institutional effectiveness.
+ Represent curriculum and accreditation interests in governance processes.
+ External Liaison Activities
+ Represent the university in external meetings with system offices, state coordinating boards, and accreditation agencies.
+ Stay current with changes in accreditation requirements and regulatory environments.
+ Staff Supervision and Development
+ Mentor and develop staff within the DARpA unit, building team capacity for supporting complex curriculum and accreditation processes.
+ Create succession planning and knowledge transfer protocols.
+ Specialized Accreditation Support
+ Provide guidance and assistance to academic departments undergoing specialized program accreditation processes.
+ Help coordinate between institutional and program-specific accreditation requirements to ensure alignment and efficiency.

+ Proven capacity to collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators across academic and administrative units.
Physical Requirements:
+ Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
+ Occasional travel between campus locations and external meetings.
+ Ability to occasionally lift materials such as files or reports (up to 20 lbs.).
Job Conditions:
+ Work is performed primarily in a climate-controlled office environment.
+ Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for project deadlines, accreditation visits, or university events.
+ High-volume periods may require flexibility and extended hours.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Master’s Degree Required.
+ Knowledge of higher education accreditation practices.
+ Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing strategic planning processes.
+ Strong leadership skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships, and communicate effectively across all levels of an academic organization.
+ Evidence of data-informed decision-making in academic contexts.
+ Experience designing and implementing curriculum to support student success and institutional goals.
+ Demonstrated excellence in the written word.
+ Teaching experience in higher education.
