Job Description
As a Shipboard Cable Technician, you will play a role in repairing various systems on board US Navy Ships. Will be responsible for repairing various cables and connectors used in electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and optical systems on board US Navy Ships and for repairing Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) conduit. Will conduct basic level troubleshooting on copper/optical cables and connectors to identify and resolve issues as quickly and efficiently as possible. Will work closely with other team members to ensure that all repairs and maintenance activities are completed in accordance with established procedures and quality standards. May occasionally have the opportunity to assist with the Installation Team to assist with equipment upgrades and installations on board US Navy ships. The selected candidate must be able to work independently and as member of a team.
The hourly rate for this position is set by the Dept of Labor and is not negotiable. The current rate is $19.79/hr.
The position is located in Chesapeake VA. There is no relocation assistance available for this position.
Applicants must be currently residing or in state willingness to relocate self to Chesapeake VA or surrounding areas.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
High school diploma and some related mechanical /electrical experience or background
Ability to effectively interact with shipboard personnel
Ability to travel ( up to 25%)
Ability work in an industrial environment and wear all required PPE
Ability to work at heights
Ability to work on a team or independently as required
Pay Information
This position is covered by a wage law called the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range for this position is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
