As the Project Designer I, you will do the following:
+ Design Capital projects for natural gas utility rebuild and replacement initiatives.
+ Focus on replacing bare steel vintage infrastructure to enhance system reliability and safety.
+ Develop and implement solutions in alignment with Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP) requirements.
+ Collaborate with engineering, operations and compliance teams to ensure project success.
+ Support long-term infrastructure improvement and risk mitigation planning.
What You Will Do
Perform a basic level of project planning, design, cost estimation, and engineering drafting using multiple design and drafting platforms to generate engineering and construction plans and estimates.
Use Windows-based software, AutoCAD and Civil 3D, ESRI ArcMap GIS, Solidworks, Microsoft suites, Adobe products, and general knowledge of plotter equipment to create, edit, and maintain data relevant to gas designs, reports, system planning for simple services, smaller growth projects, and replacements.
Enter construction project data into Maximo related to asset identification, field work orders, job plans, management of change orders and technical reviews.
Aid in engineering support and drafting through basic understanding of engineering records, third-party civil site plans and utility infrastructure data, traffic control plans, governmental engineering plans, GIS data, highway/railroad crossing permits, right of way drawings and survey information, architectural/mechanical drawings and environmental impacts and permits.
Recognize and notify Engineers of project/customer requests that may impact distribution system capacity and pressures.
Acquire necessary public right-of-way, development and general permits with city, county, railroad, canal, state, and multiple environmental agencies.
Collaborate with internal and external customers and government agencies to incorporate a diverse set of requirements and constraints into designs and to ensure designs meet the needs of stakeholders.
May create cost estimates to be used for financial analysis of commercial projects, budgeting, and forecasting for capital expenditures when applicable.
Regular and reliable attendance is required.

What You Will Need
Preferred associate’s degree general studies, certification, or equivalent Computer Aided Design experience preferred.
Basic understanding of pipeline design, drafting, project management and project estimations. Civil or mechanical engineering design experience preferred.
Apply basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Apply decimals and percentages. Apply geometric formulas and ability to convert between various units.
Basic project management skills and research capability.
Organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize projects effectively.
Experience with records, files, data systems, numbering systems, filing structures, and available resources. Will retrieve and return records to their appropriate locations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interpersonal communication skills.
Read and write fluently in English.
Minimum Applicable driver's license. Requires travel to other company offices and facilities and to job sites.
Lift or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds 2 to 3 times a week; up to 30 pounds 3 to 4 times a month.
Stationary for extended periods. Fine motor skills to draw minute details.
Operate tools and equipment as required.
Some field visits will be required to ensure correct location, assess site conditions, identify construction constraints and obstacles and discuss timelines.
Visual ability to perform job responsibilities.
