About This Role We're seeking a Manager, Molecular Biology, to lead a team executing molecular biology for OmniAb's partner discovery programs and be responsible for developing new sequencing and cloning workflows. The Molecular Biology Team focuses on cloning and sequencing antibody sequences for antibody discovery programs. The team also builds NGS libraries in support of discovery programs. This individual will collaborate closely within the Screening, Bioassay, and Bioinformatics teams to ensure the adoption and scaling of new workflows. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in molecular biology, next-generation sequencing (NGS) or single-cell sequencing, and project management. The candidate will also need the ability to lead and manage exploratory research projects, such as creating complex antibody constructs for screening. To support exploratory research, the candidate will work with external partners to evaluate and bring in new technologies, and to develop and deliver comprehensive training materials for users across the organization. This role reports to the VP, Discovery Systems. This is an onsite position based out of our Emeryville headquarters and will require up to 5% domestic and international travel. This is a full-time position, and the office hours are within 8am-5pm PT. What You'll Do * Lead Molecular Biology team to support partner projects using project management tools to keep tight deadlines. * Design and implement high throughput sequencing workflows, incorporating innovative cutting-edge technologies to further unlock various OmniAb animal platforms. * Design and implement library construction to support new antibody screening formats. * Collaborate with teams to understand needs for new workflows lead the scale up of newly established workflows. * Train and advise expansion of sequencing workflows within internal teams, gathering actionable feedback to improve project outcomes and stakeholder relations. * Contribute to scientific publications and patent applications. * Communicate effectively, enhancing collaboration and ensuring clarity in messaging within the company and externally at scientific conferences. * Other duties as required. What You Bring * PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering or another relevant field. * 8+ years of relevant experience showcasing advanced technical expertise, including 2+ years of experience managing a team. * Experience in leading the development of new antibody cloning and NGS workflows, including single cell cloning and NGS. * Experience with antibody discovery or protein engineering. * Exceptional organizational skills, capable of prioritizing effectively and managing a diverse workload. * Strong communication, record-keeping, and organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. * Commitment to growth, both in strengthening understanding of the company's values and in contributing to the team's cultural and intellectual development. The base compensation range for this position is $149,000 - $176,000 per year. The range provided is an estimate. Actual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, education, location, and other factors permitted by law.
