    Description

    POSITION SUMMARY

    + Select the correct equip5ment and lifting devices that will bear heavy loads.

    + Select the right tools to move and position heavy objects safely and efficiently.

    + Conduct weight testing in accordance with specified technical manuals for equipment such as cranes, davits, winches, anchors, and anchor chains.

    + Control movement of heavy objects/equipment through narrow openings and confined spaces using jacks, pulley blocks, chain falls, and rollers.

    + Install hooks, swivels, and turn buckles in rigging operations.

    + Use signals with workers operating cranes or other equipment to move loads safely.

    + Select and attach gears, braces, and cushions according to weight and distribution of the load.

    + Control costs in assigned area and recommend improved methods of operation for cost savings.

    + Train and supervise lower-level mechanics and semi-skilled employees.

    + Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures at the work site.

    + Abide by all safety rules, company and shipyard practices.

    + Assist other trades, as required.

    Qualifications

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

    + Must be able to read, write and comprehend instructions in written or spoken in English.

    + Must be reliable with a strong work ethic.

    + Must have basic hand tools applicable to your trade with bag or tote.

    + Must be able to wear applicable PPE (Hard hat, safety goggles, gloves, steel toes shoes, ear protection)

    Desired Education and Experience:

    + Education Minimum: High School Diploma/GED

    + Preferred Minimum: Trade School, Apprenticeship, or Higher Education

    + Minimum Relevant Experience: 5 years

     

    Preferred Relevant Experience: 7+ years.

     

    + Basic computer skills preferred

    Other Requirements:

    + Must have reliable transportation.

    + Must be eligible to obtain DBIDs.

    + Must be able to pass a drug screening.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Must be able to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert 50 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls and machinery; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions, to wear and work in personnel protective equipment.
