Summary
The Project Archaeologist is a key role, leading archaeological surveys, preparing detailed reports in compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., NHPA, NEPA, Section 106), and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
* Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects.
* Participate in pre-task planning.
* Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
* Design, conduct, and report on archaeological investigations of all types (pre-contract, historic, industrial, rural, urban) and phases (survey, evaluation, mitigation) to applicable state and or federal regulatory agency standards.
* Conduct independent pre-contract and historic documentary research
* Develop proposals, methodologies, and research designs for all types and phases of archaeological projects.
* Coordinate and assist internal and external clients with cultural resources regulatory compliance.
* Market our archaeological services to new and existing clients
* Manage projects within budget and deadline constraints
* Other duties may be assigned
Qualifications
* Meet Secretary of the Interior (SOI) standards for Professional Qualifications.
* Technical archaeologist experience including laboratory analysis, report writing, and data management.
* Knowledge of pertinent state and federal cultural resource legislation
* A minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of Cultural Resources Management
* Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
* Ability to pass a background check screening
* Ability to travel within the State of Florida and throughout the Southeast of the USA as required.
* Ability to read & write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Knowledge of written communication formats and composition, including grammar and vocabulary. Ability to present to one or more people, including customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.
* Reasoning ability to handle multiple and changing priorities concurrently. Ability to work with problems and deal with a variety of variables. Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to effectively communicate about products, services, and technical requirements to both the client/customer and employees within UES.
**Preferred Qualifications** :
* Registered Professional Archaeologist
* A Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Studies or related field from an accredited college or university can substitute for the years of experience required.
* Previous experience in marketing archaeological services
* Professional experience as an Archaeological Principal Investigator in Florida

* Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear. Standing or sitting for extended periods of time may be required.
* Lifting and/or moving up to 35 -50 lbs. is expected.
* The noise level is usually moderate.
