    Job Description

    The Department of Psychology and Sociology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a 9-month Visiting Assistant Professor position in Sociology for the 2025-2026 academic year. We seek applicants with a Doctoral Degree in Sociology who are successful teaching scholars, as evidenced by a strong record of teaching excellence and research productivity. All areas of research and teaching specialization within Sociology will be considered.

     

    The Department of Psychology and Sociology offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology as well as a minor. As such, faculty teach a range of lower- and upper-division courses in sociology at the undergraduate level. The program values student-faculty interactions beyond the classroom including research collaboration and program events (e.g., film screenings, guest speakers, etc.). The teaching load for this position will be four courses per semester. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Introduction to Sociology, Social Research Methods, Sociology of Gender, and other courses related to their area of expertise. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in departmental service where appropriate and encouraged to engage in research activity.

    Required Qualifications:

    + Doctoral degree in Sociology, advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred by the time of appointment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience teaching lower- and upper-level sociology courses at the undergraduate level, including research methods

    + A record of research activity

    + Potential to mentor undergraduate students in research
