    Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is seeking two applicants to fill our Recreation Therapist position for State Hospital South located in Blackfoot . This position is full-time with a schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (some flexibility), and working an occasional Saturday and evening. State Hospital South was established in 1886 and is in beautiful Southeast Idaho, an area best known for Oregon Trail and Native American history, amazing fly fishing, towering mountain peaks with abundant wildlife and awe inspiring geological sites. State Hospital South in Blackfoot provides psychiatric inpatient treatment and skilled nursing care for Idaho’s adult citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living. State Hospital South includes 110 psychiatric adult beds and 42 skilled nursing beds. It also maintains a statewide program to restore the competency of criminal justice patients.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

    + Assesses patients’ leisure skills and needs.

    + Analyzes and interprets assessment results.

    + Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and plan recreational interventions.

    + Establishes recreational treatment goals to meet patient needs.

    + Conducts individual and group programs to meet established goals.

    + Obtains materials and equipment to facilitate treatment goals.

    + Documents treatment and prepares reports.

    + Coordinates treatment with other providers.

    + Evaluates patients' needs for further treatment.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIALTY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    You must possess all the minimum and specialty minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum and specialty qualifications for this position. Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Licensed or registered, if applicable, by the State of Idaho; and (ii) Is (A) Eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; or (B) Has 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program; or (C) Is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, Idaho Code 54.3706; or (D) Has completed a training course approved by the State. REFERENCE 42 CFR 483.24

    + Experience developing recreational therapy treatment goals for clients. Typically gained by at least six months experience developing therapeutic recreation treatment goals for activities related to client skills and needs.

    + Experience planning and conducting individual and group therapy sessions. Typically gained through at least six months experience plus completion of coursework such as group dynamics, recreational activities, or experiential education; leisure education is also acceptable.

    SPECIALTY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Must be Certified Therapeutic Recreational Therapist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
