    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

    The mission of the Juvenile Community Justice department is to reduce risk, repair harm and create opportunity. The juvenile division operates the following programs: Juvenile Detention, Juvenile Field Services, including: Probation, Informal Supervision, Community Service and Juvenile Behavioral Health. We adhere to evidence-based practices in all decision making, aspire to a continuous learning and improvement culture, utilize restorative justice practices and promote structural equity for our clients, community and staff.

    ABOUT THE JOB:

    This position is responsible for performing case management, supervision, counseling, skill building and other functions necessary to supervise adjudicated juvenile delinquents or youth on diversion from prosecution. Incumbent will work directly with youth, family members, and community partners. Duties may include coverage for probation case management, intake and risk assessment, teaching pro-social skills and evidence-based supervision based upon risk to re-offend. Incumbent may also function as a juvenile probation officer and officer-of-the-court to provide court services that include enforcing court orders, conducting investigations, and making reports.Bilingual in English/Spanish is strongly preferred.

     

    This position is located in Deschutes County and may be eligible for hybrid of in-office/remote work as allowed by policy and approved by the supervisor.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Effectively engage and support youth with trauma history and emotional regulation difficulties.

    + Create a safe environment for staff and youth by adhering to policy and practices.

    + Communicate and collaborate within a team effectively.

    What You Will Bring:

    Knowledge of or experience with:

    + Balanced and Restorative Justice, Oregon Juvenile Code and evidence-based practices.

    + Motivating youth and teaching skills for new behavior.

    + Caseload management principles.

    Skill in:

    + Monitor and supervise the conduct of juveniles referred for a delinquency offense.

    + Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

    + Establish and maintain effective working relationships with youth, family members, stakeholders, co-workers, and the general public at all times.

    + Access community resources for youth, families and crime victims.

    + Group facilitation.

    Compensation

     

    $5,573.34 to $7,468.81 per month for a 172.67 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral, Human or Social Sciences, or a related field;

    + AND two (2) years of experience working with juveniles or adults in a corrections or human services related field;

    + OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.

    Preference will be given for:

    + Knowledge or familiarity with Effective Practices in Community Supervision (EPICS).

    + Bilingual in English and Spanish.

     

    Necessary Special Requirements

     

    Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.

     

    Must be willing and able to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.

     

    Must be able to become certified for access to the Oregon Juvenile Justice Information System.
