    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Driver is responsible for driving the Project Street Beat (PSB) Mobile Health Center (MHC) to pre-arranged sites where staff can provide services. The driver will also be required to maintain the cleanliness of both the interior and exterior of the MHC. When the MHC is parked at outreach sites, the driver is responsible for monitoring safety and security. This is a full-time position located in New York City at Project Street Beat (offices in Brooklyn and the Bronx), within PPGNY Region 1;

     

    Region 1 - NYC + Nassau County New York, Nassau, Oneida, Kings, Queens, Richmond, and Bronx

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (WEIGHTED & WITH DETAIL

    Program and Office Support (70%)

    • Drive outreach and medical staff throughout neighborhoods in New York City, during day and evening shifts the MHC, a 40-foot, 27,500 lb. bus-style vehicle.

    • In addition to driving, monitors pressure and generator gauges, hydraulics system, water supply/level, as well as operating the lift. Driver must adhere to NYC Department of Transportation approved routes at all times.

    • Cleans and sanitizes MHC after each tour in the field, including replenishing water supply and disposal of toilet, shower and sink waste daily in compliance with infectious disease precautions. Dispose of MHC waste in accordance to the PPGNY Management of Regulated Medical Waste Policy and Procedures.

    • Maintain a log of MHC’s mechanical operation. Communicate any maintenance needs to the Mobile Health Center Coordinator and the AVP of Facilities and Security.

    Administrative Team Coordination (10%)

    • Monitors and reports concerns related to safety of MHC and vehicles during operation of while parked in garages. Contacts police, files (incident) police report in cases of internal or external damages.

    • Works effectively with volunteers, PSB Health Promoters, trainees and temp agency personnel.

    Budgetary/Statistical Support (5%)

    • Accountable to meet all policies and procedures for service delivery and documentation

    Customer Service Responsibilities (5%)

    • Oversee the safety and security of the MHC and report any suspicious activity or issues to the appropriate authorities. Assist program staff with any security issues or disorderly conduct on the vehicle

    Human Resources (5%)

    • Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA.

    Special Projects (5%)

    • Performs other educational and experience related duties as required

    REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

    + Must have two (2) years of experience driving a vehicle similar in size to a 40-foot commercial RV in NYC area.

    + Must demonstrate sensitivity to communities and individuals served by Project Street Beat, including those who are living with HIV, actively use substances, living with mental health conditions, are homeless or unstably housed, and/or exchange sex for food, drugs, or shelter.

    + Must be very sensitive and responsive to the social and medical problems faced by the PSB’s target population. The ideal candidate will share PSB’s deep compassion and capacity to serve communities that are deeply marginalized and commitment to center community in our work, relationships and service. In addition must be thoroughly familiar with PSB target areas.

    + Fluent in Spanish and/or other languages preferred.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    + Must possess a valid, CDL Class B NYS driver’s license and Air Brakes endorsement with no more than one (1) moving violation in the last 24 months.

    + Requires an ability to read, write do arithmetic and apply reasoning skills equal to that of the average High School graduate

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    + Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Frequent standing, walking, bending, on uneven ground. Requires lifting or moving of patients/supplies/equipment. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. Requires the ability to hear and to communicate orally with others. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, and medical equipment and will require reaching, grasping, pushing and pulling.

    TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

    + This job operates in a mobile health unit and professional office environment. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions in a health center environment. Requires frequent travel to various environments, at times in inclement weather. Requires flexible schedule and during peak activity periods work in excess of 7.5 hours per day and/or 37.5 hours per week.

    Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season and Covid-19) and testing for tuberculosis. These certifications are required by the NYC DOHMH Health Code, NYSDOH and OSHA.
