Description The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the organization by maintaining accurate financial records, assisting in budgeting and reporting processes, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and nonprofit accounting standards. This role plays a key part in maintaining the financial health and transparency of the organization to support its mission-driven work.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and assist with month-end and year-end close.

Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Maintain and reconcile bank accounts and petty cash.

Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements and internal reports.

Support the development of organizational and program budgets.

Assist with annual audit preparation, including gathering necessary documentation and schedules.

Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (e.g., FASB, IRS regulations).

Monitor grant expenditures and track restricted and unrestricted funding.

Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records.

Provide support for payroll processing and benefits administration as needed.

Participate in improving and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.

Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as requested.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

2+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization.

Familiarity with fund accounting and nonprofit financial reporting.

Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with grant reporting and compliance.
