Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in San Francisco, California. In this role, you will handle a variety of accounting functions, including accounts payable, financial reporting, and inventory accounting. Responsibilities:
Full-Cycle Accounting: Oversee daily accounting tasks including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end closing processes.
Financial Reporting: Support the Finance Director in creating and reviewing financial statements for GAAP compliance and accuracy.
Bank Reconciliations: Complete monthly reconciliations for all bank and credit card accounts.
Inventory Management: Work with operations and sales to maintain accurate merchandise inventory records and cost reporting.
Revenue Recognition: Accurately record sales, refunds, and adjustments related to merchandise.
Tax Support: Assist in tax preparation by gathering documentation and supporting the Finance Director with filings.
Compliance & Audits: Contribute to compliance reporting and support external audits and regulatory filings.
Process Optimization: Recommend and implement improvements to financial workflows and accounts payable procedures.
Accounts Payable (AP) Management:
+ Process vendor invoices accurately and on time.
+ Handle invoice approvals and various payment methods (ACH, wire, credit card, checks).
+ Ensure accurate coding of invoices to appropriate accounts and departments.
+ Reconcile AP accounts and resolve discrepancies.
+ Maintain vendor information and address payment-related inquiries.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; equivalent experience also considered.
Experience: 2–3 years of general accounting experience, including accounts payable responsibilities.
Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of full-cycle accounting, AP processes, and basic tax preparation.
Software Skills: Proficient in accounting systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
Industry Knowledge: Experience with inventory accounting and merchandise-based businesses is a plus.
Excel Proficiency: Skilled in Excel functions, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
Attention to Detail: Strong analytical skills and a detail-oriented approach to problem-solving.
