Position Description
This is a Non-Civil Service position located with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.
Within the alternative sentencing program, counselors provide individual and group counseling services pertaining to drug/alcohol, domestic violence, additional classes as well as case management to clients. Performs related duties as required.

Typical Duties
Provides individual client counseling services
+ Completes evaluation of prospective clients for admission into treatment
+ Meets with clients to develop treatment plan
+ Completes continuing care plan with client to set post-treatment goals
+ Counsels clients for crisis situations as needed
+ Completes discharge summaries to document client’s progress while in programming.
+ Reports status to the courts as it relates to inmate compliance
Facilitates group treatment activities
+ Lectures clients on treatment and domestic violence related issues
+ Facilitates group discussions about treatment-related issues
+ Conducts aftercare meetings for clients who have graduated treatment program
+ Develops ideas for individual programming plans
Provides case management for clients
+ Checks client information (e.g., court date & account balance) on computer
+ Assists clients in completing forms
+ Updates and audits files to document case management functions provided to the client
+ Maintain up-to-date knowledge of domestic violence trends, statistics, and best practices
+ Educate clients on domestic violence prevention, intervention strategies, and awareness
+ Establish and foster relationships with organizations, agencies, and community groups to share resources and collaborate on combating domestic violence
+ Adjust working hours flexibly to meet the needs of programs
+ Other duties as required
SUPERVISION EXERCISED/SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This is a non-supervisory classification.
This classification receives general supervision from a program manager, who monitors and assigns caseloads and provides assistance with any unusual or exceptionally difficult problems or circumstances.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This classification works primarily in a non-correctional setting. There may be times the employee will have to cover classes within the jail setting. This will not exceed more than 50 percent of the employee’s workweek. Working directly with the client population on a daily basis may result in exposure to unruly individuals. The environment is an office setting under generally favorable working conditions that involves the everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
While this job is predominantly sedentary, tasks may require some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years counseling experience.
Maintains requirement for individual certification or licensure
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
