    Logan Health Medical Center is looking for a PRN Laboratory Prep Technician in Microbiology to join their team!

     

    This position, located in Kalispell, MT, is as needed and will assist with open shift coverage, vacations, holidays, and other gaps in the schedule.

    What you'll be doing:

    As a PRN Lab Prep Tech in our Microbiology department, you’ll support essential lab functions such as:

    + Assist in specimen culture setups, including fluid and tissue samples

    + Prepare and organize antibiotic susceptibility tests

    + Support general lab operations, stocking, and inventory management

    + Prepare test materials for scientists and technologists to interpret

    + Follow sterile procedures and support safe, accurate lab workflows

    Who you are:

    We’re looking for someone who is comfortable in a lab environment and handling patient specimens, including fluids and tissue. You will understand the importance of following sterile procedures with care and precision. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, basic computer skills, and hold a high school diploma. Prior experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting is highly desired.

    Qualifications:

    + Post high school education or vocational training in healthcare preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

    + Minimum of one (1) year’s experience in laboratory clinical or pathology section preferred.

    + Basic knowledge of medical terminology required.

    + Human Anatomy and Physiology course completion or related field preferred.

    + Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.

    + Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.

    + Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.

    + Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

    + Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

    Job Specific Duties:

    + Assists in various duties including, but not limited to; loading and unloading centrifuges, storing of specimens, ordering and inventory control, specimen preparation, etc.

    + Properly prepares specimens in an effort to expedite diagnosis. Adheres to all specimen processing procedures.

    + Acts as liaison between appropriate stakeholders during daily operational work flow per department protocol.

    + Checks equipment temperatures per department procedures.

    + Prints pending lists and locates specimens as needed.

    + Adheres by documentation procedures. Follows format, policies and procedures for the admission, registration, and test ordering in the system. Accurately orders and cancels tests in the defined LIS system.

    + Reviews and ensures accurate patient identification and information per department procedures.

    + Performs routine preventative maintenance on instruments. Performs quality control procedures and cleans department area and equipment per department protocol.

    + Participates in the technical training of specimen preparations per department protocol.

    + The above essential functions are representative of major duties of positions in this job classification. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. Other duties may be assigned similar to the above consistent with knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job. Not all of the duties may be assigned to a position.

     

    Maintains regular and consistent attendance as scheduled by department leadership.

    Shift:

    Variable (United States of America)

     

    Schedule: PRN (scheduled as needed). Shifts can be any day of the week, including weekends and holidays. Shift are 12-hour shifts from 9 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.

     

    Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.

     

    PRN positions (also referred to as Casual, As Needed, or Per Diem) at Logan Health offer flexibility and are designed to provide coverage during busy periods, employee absences, and vacations, making them an excellent opportunity to support the team as needed. PRN employees can participate in a matching 401(k) plan and have access to the Employee Assistance Program. Additionally, they may qualify for hourly differential pay for certain shifts or hours, offering extra compensation based on department-specific scheduling needs. Pay rates and scheduling practices may vary by department.
