A Brief Overview
The Senior Risk Analyst is responsible for evaluating the internal controls over financial reporting established by the Corporation, assessing deficiencies identified as a result of Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (“SOX”), Sections 302 and 404 assessments, and assisting in presenting the SOX Program results to upper Management and relevant governance. The Senior Risk Analyst is focused on identifying the external and internal risks that the corporation faces, evaluating the likely effect of these risks, introducing a range of control measures, and monitoring and evaluating the success of these measures.
What you’ll do
• Understanding and assessing internal controls over financial reporting (ICFRs) for all in-scope areas for SOX.
• Applying knowledge from the COSO frameworks to evaluate internal controls and processes.
• Identifying significant fluctuations in financial statement line items (FSLIs) and performing financial scoping assessments.
• Assisting the Corporate Risk Manager in determining SOX materiality and scoping of financial statement line items, with quarterly reassessments.
• Conducting walkthroughs with various business areas, interviewing personnel, and reviewing documentation of business processes and activities.
• Keeping current with changes in accounting methodology and regulations relevant to the banking industry.
• Developing and monitoring the SOX Assessment Annual Work Plan to ensure compliance with SOX Sections 302 and 404.
• Coordinating walkthroughs, scheduling meetings, and delivering requests to Management and External Auditors in a timely manner.
• Monitoring the status of SOX deficiencies identified in past periods.
• Providing supervision and technical coaching to Analysts.
• Documenting business processes and core systems in narratives, flowcharts, and risk control matrices.
• Evaluating changes in control activities, processes, and core systems to determine their impact on financial reporting.
• Designing general controls over information systems (ITGCs) based on financial scoping.
• Maintaining open communication with the team and ensuring deadlines are met.
• Executing tasks diligently and providing prompt results.
• Evaluating control deficiencies and documenting results in detail.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Formal Education
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting, or Finance is required.
• Master’s degree in business administration, Accounting, or Finance, preferred.
Knowledge and Experience
+ · 3-5 years work of related experience, including at least two years in internal and/or external audit and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
+ 6-7 years of extensive experience with internal and/or external audit and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
+ Conceptual knowledge of Accounting Standards, Updates and professional standards (i.e., FASB, ASU’s, PCAOB).
+ Conceptual knowledge of G/L accounting.
+ High proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Word.
+ Strong analytic thinking capacity, problem solving, organized, detail oriented and is able to multitask.
+ Fluent in English (e.g., able to have conceptual discussions with internal and external users).
