    Our Mechanical Engineering team has an exciting opportunity in San Diego, CA, for a Mechanical Engineering Sustainment Manager eager to make history by joining the Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) system sustainment team—part of the most advanced aircraft carrier systems.

     

    We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Sustainment Manager who has experience dealing with mechanical systems, electromechanical systems, hands-on experience in design for manufacturing to join our ALRE team. Experience with systems used to launch aircraft, and energy absorption systems used to safely decelerate aircraft during carrier landings & system integration to join our ALRE team. This role requires expertise in understanding designing for reliability and safety, including experience with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and other risk assessment methodologies, experience with large steel structures and fabrication methods: cutting and welding (AWS standards), and experience with Power Electronics Packaging for medium and high voltage (Enclosures, Cabinets).

     

    This individual typically reports to a technical manager and will be responsible for the technical leadership and professional development of their group while contributing to the performance of the mechanical engineering team.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Lead the Sustaining Engineering team in analyzing field performance of ALRE products and responding to opportunities for product improvement including feeding information back into ongoing projects.

    + Use tools and processes (Metrics tracking) to aid in the analysis of field/production equipment performance and implement reporting structures to communicate status and issues to management.

    + Support the transfer of products from design engineering to manufacturing.

    + Lead failure analysis and corrective actions aimed at improving the quality of ALRE’s products by working with internal and external engineering and manufacturing teams in the organization.

    + Work with Manufacturing/Production and other teams to develop strategies to maximize the quality of products and improve customer satisfaction.

    + Provide feedback to development/manufacturing teams regarding optimal strategies for maintaining high performance products at the lowest possible support cost.

    + Recommend a clear path for improving product functionality based on the use of tools and methodologies.

    + Coordinate the releasing process with Program Office/CM’s to speed up the FA and root cause analysis.

    + Support driving full documentation of design including BOM, drawings, and procedures.

    + Provide engineering support for component obsolescence issues.

    + Manage activities for technical engineering project(s) including planning and managing the technical design to align to performance objectives, and ensure quality and effectiveness for mechanical & electromechanical systems

    + Implement current, annual and long-term technical, schedule, and quality objectives for the engineering unit. May also participate in the development of Group/Company objectives.

    + Interact internally with engineering team and/or with suppliers, vendors or customers to share information and for basic problem resolution. Act as primary contact for Sustainment engineering activities.

    + Interface with all levels of GA management across all disciplines to provide Engineering services for various programs

    + Provide direction and coordinate all activities between Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering in support of Production, including various suppliers, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Planning, Component & Systems Engineering, Program Office, Configuration Management and Material Review Board

    + May participate in the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s)

    + Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required management, professional, and technical talent

    + Lead progress review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance

    + Identify engineering issues and provide leadership in developing solutions such as technical decisions, re-allocation of resources or recommendations to program managers for modifications of contract specifications

    + May participate in the development of new business opportunities and expansion of existing business opportunities

    + Manage the development of and ensure the security of the unit's proprietary technology, and maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information

    + Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company

    + Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

    Job Qualifications:

    + Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as nine or more years of progressively complex engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.

    + Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices as applicable to integrated systems.

    + Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems

    + Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and leading a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects

    + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance is required

    + Must have experience in managing a Mechanical Engineering team in the research, development, test and evaluation of mechanical systems and electromechanical systems .

    + Candidate must have experience with military systems designing, analyzing, building and testing systems.

    + Experience with CAD software such as CREO, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, FEA ANSYS is desired.

    + A Professional Engineering License, and original work(s) published in professional engineering journals are desirable
