    The laboratory has a translational emphasis on preclinical studies of targeted therapeutics, with a specific focus on the biochemical and adaptive signaling responses to small molecule inhibition of RAS dysregulated pathways in cancer. We are seeking a **_Research Specialist_** who will support the operations of a biospecimen repository, which involves direct interaction with patients, specimen handling, and communication with investigators in the process of specimen and data sharing activities.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities

    + Leads the management of an active biospecimen repository, ensuring effective communication with patients, extensive coordination with a multidisciplinary team, chart review and data extraction and clinical database annotation.

    + Collaborates scientifically with internal and external investigators on multiple research projects, sharing biobank samples and associated clinical data.

    + Manages the inventory of biological specimens entering the laboratory.

    + Oversees and assures laboratory compliance with regulatory requirements and JHU standards, policies, and procedures.

    + Processes specimens in accordance with NCI Best Practices for Biospecimen Resources.

    + Interacts with regulatory bodies that regulate specimen sharing, including IRB and legal offices.

    + Conducts in vivo experiments and establishes patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models.

    + Assists with oversight of laboratory operations, including but not limited to: ordering and stocking supplies, ensuring laboratory safety, maintaining data and inventory spreadsheets, oversight and training students and new lab members, updating protocols, researching and implementing new technologies, maintaining clean laboratory.

    + Participates in developing experimental designs.

    + Designs controlled experiments independently.

    + Plans and implements experiments.

    + Evaluates and interprets results, familiar with theory behind experiments and able to apply analytical skills to interpret results.

    + Compiles, analyzes, interprets research data using various computer software applications.

    + Conducts literature review, participates in editing and preparing manuscripts, scientific illustrations, graphics for publication.

    + Performs established laboratory assays under the initial supervision of senior personnel until capable of performing assays independently.

    + Knowledgeable in RNA/DNA/protein isolation, PCR, qPCR, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, tissue culture, electrophoresis, and animal (mouse) work.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

    + One year laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond High School Diploma or graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
