    Position Summary:

    The CU System Office of Advancement provides excellent customer service, strategy, expertise, and efficiency to our partners on CU’s campuses and at the University of Colorado Foundation. We support CU’s fundraising and engagement goals through advancement operations that include constituent research and development, data management, business intelligence, technical architecture, annual giving, planned giving, gift administration, marketing and communications, IT, budget and finance, and more.     The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst is a member of the Business Intelligence unit at the University of Colorado’s (CU) Central Advancement Office. This position contributes to the team’s transformative impact by lending strategic insight and keen analysis to Advancement’s operations across the University of Colorado System. This position supports all four campuses, the President’s Office, central Advancement, and the CU Foundation, through targeted reporting, technical administration, and campus partner success. The BI Analyst responds to requests submitted through the centralized report/data queue and aids ongoing projects by working closely with clients and information technology (IT) teams to transform data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make informed business decisions. The BI Analyst is tasked with maintaining, improving, and crafting enterprise- and application-level reports using Business Intelligence tools, enabling sophisticated analytic tools support for partners across the university, and supporting a reporting community of practice requiring a balance of technical, customer service, and project management skills. Successful candidates have had success in inspiring change across a distributed system.

     

    This position reports to the Associate Director of Business Intelligence & Data Architecture and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff System.

    Where You Will Work:

    The CU System Office of Advancement follows a “flexibility first” approach to work that defines how we manage and make use of in-person time. As a fully remote position, this role will work remotely with the exception of four separate callback weeks per year— when all our colleagues are expected to be together in the office. During callback weeks, this role is expected to work from the CU System office at 1800 Grant St. in Denver, Colorado. Any additional in-office time will be determined by this roles direct manager.

    Description of Job

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Data Analysis & Report Development

     

    + Translates business requirements into specifications used to drive a data mart/data model design and configuration

    + Develops and maintains documentation of standard and customized report requirements (e.g. statements of work, roadmaps, and mock-ups)

    + Monitors, analyzes, tests, and corrects existing reports. Identifies, proposes, and implements processes for improving reliability and efficiency in an evolving reporting environment

    + Assists with ad hoc reporting and data analysis projects as needed

    + Assists with environment upgrades and migrations as needed

    + Actively participates as a member of the team in project initiatives and decision-making opportunities

     

    Project Management

     

    + Conducts technical feasibility for projects, working multi-functionally as needed

    + Works with Central Advancement leadership and partners to manage and complete projects for the Advancement Data Council and Advancement System Work Plans

    + Crafts and maintains project management documentation, including standard project summaries and goal timelines

    + Assists enterprise reporting readiness by building, developing, and deploying solutions within the BI platform

    + Collaborates with Central Advancement teams on initiatives related to enterprise reporting, sophisticated analysis, and ad hoc reporting

    + Uses Agile project management methodologies to help ensure timely, quality work

     

    Partner Success

     

    + Engages with campus, foundation, and central partners and build collaborative working relationships

    + Consults with clients to determine specifications for data requests, project design, and reporting needs

    + Works closely with clients to craft, test, build, and implement new reporting/dashboard solutions including sophisticated reports with drill-down, drill-through, and parameterized functionality

    + Collaborates with clients to translate reports into actionable objectives and work

    + Provides technical assistance and cross training of end users and technical support staff in use of internal and external reporting technologies

     

    Professional Development & Training

     

    + Engages in technical training and professional development opportunities to maintain innovative industry skills and deepen business knowledge

    + Participates in presentations, trainings, and workshop sessions related to platform/application navigation and configuration

     

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (the educational requirement may be substituted with professional experience on a year-for-year basis)

    + Two (2) years’ experience using BI reporting tools to develop, maintain, and update business intelligence reports

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Business, Analytics, Decision Sciences, Statistics, Information Systems, or related field.

    + Experience in the following:

    + Analytic Applications to develop, maintain, and update business intelligence reports

    + Work in a higher-education, healthcare, non-profit, and/or advancement setting

    + Customer relationship management (CRM) software, particularly Salesforce or other higher education constituent database software

    + Development programming languages (such as Java, JavaScript, Python, Salesforce Apex etc.)

    + Relational databases in an Oracle client/server environment

    + SQL and writing queries against sophisticated database structures

    + Logical and physical data modeling concepts

    + Cognos or other common standard BI tools

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Knowledge of business intelligence principles and standard processes, including data management and reporting processes

    + Knowledge of logical and physical data modeling concepts

    + Knowledge of Web Development programming languages (such as Java, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, aspx, etc.)

    + Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between othersOral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details clearly

    + Analytical, logical, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze data and trends in order to produce results

    + Ability to apply or proven skills to learning the following:

    + Microsoft Office Suite

    + SQL/SOQL Query Tools

    + Salesforce ascend applications, or similar

    + Salesforce reports and dashboards

    + Cognos, Tableau, or similar BI tools

    + ETL tools

    + Ability to work independently and multi-functionally to meet personal and team goals

    + Ability to provide technical assistance to customers, including the ability to convey technical information to non-technical users in accessible terms

    + Ability to maintain confidentiality of information

    + Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, follow-up with partners, meet goals, and bring projects to completion

    + Ability to quickly learn new technologies and their application environment

    + Ability to use structured query language (SQL) to write queries against complex database structures
