    The position will serve as the Local Foods Program Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Broome County. This position is responsible for the program coordination and support of established programs related to the Farmers Market Nutrition Program, veterans, agritourism, and the buy local movement in Broome County. The position is responsible for the coordination of the statewide Farmers Market Nutrition Program educational campaign throughout the Cornell Cooperative Extension system. The Program Coordinator will coordinate programs for veterans in Broome County focused on eating healthy and learning valuable self-resiliency skills such as gardening and cooking. The Program Coordinator supports consumer education and marketing activities focused on buy local efforts. The position will coordinate educational programs for agritourism destinations in Broome County. The Program Coordinator will demonstrate respect for, and inclusiveness toward, individuals of all backgrounds in interactions with program participants, staff, volunteers, and the public. Program Coordinator will coordinate programs with program partners across various locations in the county.

    POSITION DETAILS:

    This position is a part-time, non-exempt position, 30 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $22.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

    POSITION INFORMATION:

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and two (2) years transferable program/functional experience).

    + Experience relevant to the role of the position.

    + Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

    + Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience with administrative tasks, including coordinating events.

    + Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

    + Demonstrated ability to plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.

    + Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences.

    + Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.

    + Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    Program Responsibilities:

    Program Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research - 15%

     

    + Utilize established program resources and materials to implement 30 nutrition education events across the county during the farmers market season.

    + Utilize established program resources and materials to support and provide technical assistance to agritourism operations throughout the county.

    + Utilized established program resources and materials to deliver educational programs to veterans in Broome County.

    + Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.

    + May be involved in multidisciplinary team efforts within the Association, University, or regionally to deliver program.

    + Assist in ensuring that program delivery is within scope of statewide Plans of Work.

    Administrative Responsibilities:

    Direction and Management - 10%

     

    + Assist Supervisor, the Nutrition Team Lead and others in the Ag & Food Systems Team with non-complex administrative tasks in the planning of educational programs.

    + Assist Supervisor with identifying, anticipating, recommending and planning for program needs/supplies.

    + Provide administrative assistance in planning for mass media efforts.

    + Provide input, and propose updates to, existing curriculum, associated materials and resources housed on the Cornell University Farmers Market Nutrition Program website annually.

    + Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program.

    + Conduct annual evaluation with partner Cornell Cooperative Extensions in the Farmers Market Nutrition Program Outreach Program for New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets.

     

    Coordination/Operation - 70%

     

    + Host virtual trainings annually for participating Cornell Cooperative Extension educators on the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets Farmers Market Nutrition Program Outreach Program.

    + Coordinate the statewide Farmers Market Nutrition Program Education Outreach Program on behalf of NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets. This can include:

    + Customized Memorandum of Understanding with each CCE outlining roles and responsibilities.

    + Track deliverables per county and match with stipends per nutrition education event.

    + Annual communication with NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets and Cornell University regarding number of events and number of participants.

    + Catalog necessary and existing resources to conduct county-specific nutrition education events and purchase as required in partnership with Supervisor.

    + Support the Grown in Broome Broome initiative, an online presence for supporting local foods and agritourism destinations through a variety of methods and means.

    + Coordinate and support professional development activities for agritourism operators in Broome County.

    + Coordinate educational programs for veterans focused on healthy eating, cooking and gardening.

    + Cultivate relationships with community partners to support programs, including but not limited to: Broome County Office for the Aging, Broome County Health Department, Broome County & NYS Division of Veterans Affairs, Visit Bing, etc.

    + Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and Ag & Food Systems team to achieve Association program delivery goals.

    + Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.

     

    Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

     

    + Participate in required trainings and professional development opportunities as identified.

    + In cooperation with Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.

    + Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

     

    Health and Safety - Applied to all duties and functions.

     

    + Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.

    + Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

    + Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
