    POSITION PURPOSE

    Under guidance of the Director of the “Career Center @ Engineering,” the Assistant Director is responsible for the design and delivery of the College of Engineering internship program and other employer-related opportunities. They will work with the Director, other key staff and university partners to develop a comprehensive strategic plan with the goal of expanding the number, quality, and diversity of professional career opportunities available for UW students and alumni.

    Position Complexities

    + Collaboration and coordination with various academic and administrative units on campus, at other institutions and in the community is required.

    + Advise students and serve as subject matter expert on current hiring trends in engineering and individual employer hiring plans and needs by working closely with associates.

    + Maintain confidential student records for all program participants and prospective students.

    + Work closely with Director to ensure consistency between employer and student aspects of internship experiences.

    + Partner with Engineering Corporate & Foundation Relations to develop mutually beneficial employer relationships.

    + Integrate continuous improvement and innovative practices into the internship program; share "best practices" campus-wide in conjunction with the centralized Career Center. **Position Dimensions and Impact to the University** An increasing emphasis on practical experience, whether research or industry experience, prior to graduation is being placed on students and can affect employability. A robust internship program (both in structure and staff) can allow students to explore options and provide them with appropriate opportunities & support to do that. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** INTERNSHIP COURSE ADMINISTRATION

    + Manage credit-based internship courses (ENGR 321/601) including course registration & grading, to the college’s vision of experiential learning and help shape growth potential for quality engineering internships

    + Work closely with engineering department advisers to ensure that students are aware of available internship opportunities.

    + Ensure that international students in engineering, both undergraduate and graduate, are working within U.S. Immigration as well as University policies and requirements.

    + Collaborate with the centralized Career & Internship Center on vision for university internships

    + Improve / Implement competency-based assessments for internship students and ensure that all departments have pertinent information for ABET accreditation purposes.STUDENT ADVISING & PROGRAMMING

    + Provide one-on-one student advising sessions to help undergraduate students attain jobs and internships.

    + Use industry and company knowledge to provide targeted advice and support.

    + Counsel students who encounter program-related and personal difficulty; identify appropriate resources and develop plans for improved success.

    + Facilitate delivery of various CC@E workshops and courses (e.g., ENGR 160) to enhance students' learning around professional developmentOTHER

    + Work closely with employers to engage in on-campus participation & brand marketing activities, such as employer-led workshops, connections with student organizations and assistance with networking sessions; provide event management support for major employer events (e.g., Engineering Hiring Expo, Industry Networking Nights, career treks).Lead Responsibilities

    + Manage the internship program, allowing students to translate their academic foundation into professional success

    + Collaborate with student organizations and departments to create additional experiential learning initiatives & robust career programming, including Young Engineering Professionals programming

    + Provide high level of customer service to employer partners, ensuring that they achieve their recruiting goal **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

    + Bachelor’s engineering, education, counseling, business, or other related field.

    + 2-3 years of experience in student counseling and/or university recruiting. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

    + Experience working with Engineering students (or possesses an Engineering background)

    + Experience working with employers providing excellent service, as well as ability to effectively network (verbal and written communication) skills, especially when interacting with internal and external clients.

    + Experience working with students.

    + Deep commitment to customer service and the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines & work successfully in a fast-paced environment.

    + Comfortable, flexible and enthusiastic in role as team member.

    + Positive attitude & proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations.

    + Proficiency in collecting and analyzing data and organizing results/outcomes. **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**

    + Candidates should be comfortable with occasional evening and/or weekend work to support events, as well as potential travel (e.g., conferences / meetings).

    + Experience peak periods during the first six to eight weeks of each academic quarter when client demand is high for appointments and services are high (e.g., counseling, workshops, counselor-on-email, advising resume reviews, on-call “quick” questions).

    + During the high-volume periods, the Assistant Director must be prepared to respond quickly, accurately and appropriately to multiple clients with widely varying questions and needs; and to perform tasks well in the face of frequent interruptions, changing priorities, and continued updating of information. **Application Process:** The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
