Central Fill Specialty Pharmacy located on S 76th Street in Philadelphia.

Hiring at either the Pharmacy Tech I level or Pharmacy Tech trainee level.

Pharmacy Technician I

Summary:

+ The Ambulatory Pharmacy Technician is responsible for processing prescriptions for patients and their families in the clinic setting. The Pharmacy Technician will collect medication histories, fill scripts, and coordinate payments in conjunction with pharmacist direction.

Responsibilities:

+ Determines patient insurance requirements for pre-certification, patient payments and coverage limitation and the necessary action(s) prior to discharge.

+ Maintain communication with ambulatory based clinical pharmacist, social worker, discharge and specialty pharmacy program team members as needed to obtain complete, accurate financial information required for claim adjudication.

+ Immediately communicate any issue with coverage to the clinical practice to determine the appropriate next steps.

+ Communicates benefit investigation information proactively to the clinical practices and to patients.

+ Supports all myPennPharmacy services as needed.

+ Collaborates with internal team members to gather appropriate paperwork, prescription, billing information, and/or prescription(s).

+ Provides follow-up relating to the communication to patients, clinical practices, and family for pharmaceutical needs and/or additional eligibility information to ensure on-going medication access.

+ Interacts with medical staff and their designees to obtain complete, accurate, and timely clinical and financial information required for payer reimbursement.

+ Provides education to patients and clinical practices regarding patient insurance coverage as it relates to their discharge medications.

+ Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

+ Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Credentials:

+ Pharmacy Technician certification - CPhT ( **Required** )

Education or Equivalent Experience:

+ High school diploma/GED ( **Required** )

+ At least one year of retail pharmacy technician experience preferred.

OR

Pharmacy Technician Trainee

Summary:

+ The Pharmacy Technician Trainee is a temporary job title for pharmacy technicians who are hired into any pharmacy area without pharmacy technician certification. A pharmacy technician hired into this role must become certified within 6 months of hire in order to continue employment and move into a permanent pharmacy technician role.

Responsibilities:

+ Stock and restock medications

+ Triage phone calls appropriately

+ Fill medication prescriptions

+ Deliver medications to assigned areas

+ Regularly rotate medication stock and check for expired medications

+ Run cash register and dispense prescriptions to patients

+ Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

+ Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Credentials:

+ Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) required within 6 months of hire

Education or Equivalent Experience:

+ High school diploma/GED (Required)

+ Minimum of 6 months of pharmacy experience is **required** .
