The Paramedic Education program is nearing the graduation of the 55th Paramedic cohort of students since its inception in 1977. This Program has graduated over 1,500 Paramedics since 1977 and plays an integral role in the community and regional need for Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The Paramedic Education Coordinator provides continuity between didactic and clinical components of the education program. You will work collaboratively with the EMS Education program staff in the coordination, implementation and on-going evaluation of the EMS Education Programs.
A caregiver in this position works varying shifts, from 8:00AM-10:00PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Make recommendations for improvements on clinical rotations obtained from literature research on education methods used in other paramedic curriculums.
+ Develop and implement annual preceptor training for all clinical and field preceptors.
+ Assist with maintenance of approval/accreditation status and compliance with all applicable regulations, statutes, personnel qualifications, and reporting requirements.
+ Track and document student clinical status and provides updates to staff on student clinical progress.
+ Coordinate, develop, and evaluate lab sessions for the EMS Education Programs as needed.
+ Conduct a clinical orientation with students at the beginning of every EMT and Paramedic course.
+ Hold student clinical progress conferences on a per phase basis.
+ Review student field documentation quality and preceptor comments.
+ Make visits to hospital clinical and field internship experience areas to discuss progress with clinical preceptors.
+ Assist with grading of written examinations by making recommendations for revisions to didactic and clinical evaluation documents and methods for improvement.
+ Develop and evaluate new computer programs that enhance the tracking of student progress.
+ Conduct tutoring sessions with students as required to improve didactic and/or clinical deficiencies, or upon request of the students.
+ Monitor student performance post-tutoring session to determine effectiveness and need for further tutoring.
+ Together with other EMS Education staff members, develop improvements to educational performance measurement devices such as tests and quizzes.
+ Develop, coordinate, and evaluate the Emergency Medical Technician Program under the auspice of the EMS Education Program to include scheduling of classes, recruitment of students, scheduling of instructors, test development and evaluation, and instruction as needed for each course offered.
+ Establish and maintain a working relationship with community health organizations and agencies.
+ Participate in other pre-hospital fire service-related activities which enhance the credibility of the instruction provided within the Paramedic and EMT Program.
+ Instruct ACLS, PALS, and BLS courses as needed to meet the need of the program, the organization, and the community.
+ Serve as the course coordinator for an online anatomy and physiology course for incoming EMT and Paramedic students when/if required based on the needs of the program.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ High school diploma or GED
+ 3 years of experience as a Paramedic
+ 5 years EMS experience as an EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic
+ Knowledge of computers and ability to become proficient with Platinum Planner student software and Microsoft Office Suite
+ Can communicate professionally with students, staff, members of the community, and all Cleveland Clinic Caregivers
+ FESI (Fire and Emergency Services Instructor, Level II) course completion required within 90 days of hire
+ State of Ohio Paramedic Certification
+ **OR** Ohio Registered Nurse with 5 or more years of prehospital experience
+ BLS provider
+ ACLS provider
+ PALS provider required within 12 months
+ ITLS Provider required within 12 months
+ Basic Life Support Instructor - American Heart Association (BLSI) required within 12 months
+ Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Instructor - American Heart Association (ACLSI) required within 12 months
+ Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor - American Heart Association (PALSI) required within 12 months
+ ITLS Instructor (International Trauma Life Support) instructor certification required within 12 months
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Bachelor's Degree or higher
+ Degree in field of EMS, Medicine/Pre-Med/Health Professions
+ National Registered Paramedic certification
+ Previous teaching experience
+ Experience managing student records

Physical Requirements:
+ Extensive travel from place to place at the work location and to travel between work locations
+ Working in a stationary position for extended periods
