Role Purpose: The Instrumentation supervisor consistently challenges each aspect of the production process to improve product margin. Work closely with the Operations Manager (OM) to enhance production throughput and On Time Delivery (OTD). Research, analyze, validate, and document the effectiveness of existing production processes and develop strategies for meeting the Humanetics Safety Division’s goals and objectives. Supervise your respective department and maintain OTD requirements to the customer via daily throughput analysis and driving completion to the TOP 5 customer orders. Knowledge of manufacturing and operations principles and ability to apply those principles to production management functions to drive success within the department.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
+ Drive a high standard for safety, reporting on near miss items to both the safety officer and entire team to ensure a high confidence to reduce chance of incidents/accidents within the respective work area.
+ Provide leadership to technicians, experienced professional staff, and operational associates to develop a strong and effective production team.
+ Start each day with your “toolbox” meeting. Share the previous day’s performance to target with team and give direction for the new day.
+ Provide positive and objective coaching/mentorship of team members.
+ Establish SMART performance and development goals for each direct report based on performance evaluations.
+ Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the production team and manage the team accordingly.
+ Clear focus on accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
+ Creates a positive work environment that promotes positive energy, creativity, and teamwork among associates by demonstrating open communication and sharing functional and technical knowledge.
Reporting:
+ Establish/Enhance, Support, and report regular/weekly on departments’ performance against targeted performance goals/KPIs to ensure that customer and production expectations are exceeded.
+ + Reports daily on department KPI’s along with other production metrics such as Health & Safety, Quality and 5S audits.
+ Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
+ Maintains a high-level productivity, striving to reach our stretch goal of 85% and Identifies items effecting productivity to ensure corrective actions are taken to complete build/ for future builds.
+ Monitors rejections from calibration and works with appropriate parties to create an overall reduction to maintain a 100% first-time right approach.
+ Timed roving throughout the shift to ensure your daily goals are met with a proactive approach instead of reactive at end of day/next day.
+ Keeps management informed on commercial issues through communications; aids and assists the team with reports, presentations, etc.
+ Establish and support individual and team goals in delivering results
Business Performance/Process:
+ Responsible for working with manufacturing engineering and maintenance to ensure equipment and machinery is maintained and functioning as intended in respective area.
+ Promote a culture of continuous improvement through rigorous root cause analysis, improvement initiatives, and the application of Lean tools and techniques.
+ Direct activities for procurement of required maintenance and repair of the machine parts, and manufacturing supplies. Recommends and/or makes improvements in machinery and equipment and in manufacturing methods.
+ Collaborate in site production planning, design, development, and implementation of new technology or enhancements to existing technology to lower overhead costs and improve productivity.
+ Ensures compliance with site process changes, enhancements, and modifications to facilitate implementing new or improved business processes.
+ Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
+ Understand and support the company’s goals and objectives. Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics to support Safety Division’s goals and objectives.
+ Work with department heads to ensure all company policy and procedure manuals are always current and followed as the Employee’s handbook and Company policies and procedures.
+ Actively drives improvement in ERP system (CSI) to improve efficiency of the site’s production team.
+ Apprise Payroll & Human Resources of employee work, vacation, attendance, and discipline records for timely record keeping. Approve direct employee time records every day start of shift.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE MEASURES
+ Identify developmental/career opportunities to ensure staff retention.
+ Develop and implement effective production strategies to improve efficiency and utilization of production lines.
+ Initial Supervisor KPIs
+ Meet site’s Mfg. Sales Revenue Monthly/Quarter: 75%
+ Meet site’s OTD (on-time delivery)/Lead time by product type.
+ Customer Satisfaction
+ BU Operational Targets (Throughput, WIP (work in progress) by mix type (Backlog, Phase 1, Phase 2, and GF); Resource utilization by department, workstation, and personal; Overtime by workstation, and personal; etc.
Education and/or Experience:
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required.
+ Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ 3+ years previous Lead and/or Supervisory and practical work experience within a manufacturing facility preferably in High-Mix, Low-Volume (HMLV) Manufacturing.
+ Must lead an organization successfully by coordinating policies, people, and resources. Promote a productive work environment with high employee engagement levels.
+ Experience in direct line management.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.
+ Excellent time management and problem-solving skills are required to drive operational objectives.
+ Maintains a high degree of technical proficiency and understanding of sales and production processes. Strong knowledge and exposure to manufacturing processes and production issues
+ The ability to gather, analyze, and interpret demand data to inform/support continuous improvement and strategy development.
+ Must have proven project management skills and experience, advanced influencing capabilities, the ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, and a team-building work style.
