+ The salary range for position is commensurate. Final salary and job title will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.
Job Summary
The Associate Transportation Researcher is responsible for conducting research in a support role while developing the skills needed to eventually lead research and develop new business opportunities. Specific duties include reviewing literature, coordinating and collecting data, analyzing data, writing reports, planning research activities, preparing and delivering presentations, writing journal articles, and others. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Perform applied research duties, including data collection, analysis, and coordination. Plan, schedule, and report detailed phases of research and development projects. Evaluate and document data collection requirements and activities. Coordinate data gathering activities and gather data needed for research tasks. Assemble, organize, document, and archive datasets. Develop data models and metadata. Synthesize data and extract meaningful statistics and trends. Develop and/or run applications to conduct the research. Analyze and develop potential new techniques, policies, procedures, and recommendations. Communicate, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams comprising research staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and support staff to ensure the completion of research objectives and timely delivery of high-quality project deliverables. (40%)
+ Compile, document, and present results in formats required for inclusion in reports, technical memoranda, and presentations. Prepare technical documentation, including data collection, analysis, and summaries. Prepare project reports and other deliverables as required. Prepare materials for presentation of research results and other deliverables at technical meetings or other venues and to sponsors. (40%)
+ Assist researchers with proposal development. Prepare and give presentations to existing and potential sponsors, academic settings, or conference settings. Prepare, schedule, conduct, and document research meetings. (10%)
+ Performs other related duties as assigned. (10%)
Required Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in related field or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
One year of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledgeable in various research and testing methodologies.
In-depth knowledge of Government Affairs, including USDOT rules including transportation planning and programming rules, procedures and funding.
Ability to document research studies, write reports, specifications, and test procedures, including the use of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and similar software.
Ability to develop, implement and monitor budgets and resources.
Ability to meet deadlines and deliverable due dates.
Other Requirements
Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
May be required to work in hot, cold, and extreme weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
Well-versed in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, word and MS Office suite.
Skills and experience in government affairs interacting and advising state DOT management and staff. Provide technical expertise, and policy research and analysis.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform common office functions.
Ability to frequently communicate with other individuals within the workplace.
Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
