The Opportunity

Black & Veatch is seeking a dynamic and experienced **Software Engineering Manager** to lead a team of skilled software engineers developing modern digital products in the AI and infrastructure space. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in full-stack development and cloud-native architectures, primarily Azure & AWS, combined with proven leadership in agile delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends people management with technical guidance, fostering innovation and excellence in digital product delivery.

The Team

**Black & Veatch’s Business Enablement** consists of critical groups that help enable the organizations people, projects, and businesses to be as successful as possible. Functions in this group include Digital & Information Technology, Global Finance, Global Human Resources, Legal, Risk Management, and Government Affairs and Real Estate and Building Services.

Key Responsibilities

+ Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers working on scalable digital products and platforms.

+ Oversee the development, testing, and deployment of custom software solutions, ensuring quality and timeliness.

+ Drive best practices in architecture, design patterns, code quality, and DevOps processes.

+ Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and AI/ML teams to align technical execution with business goals.

+ Manage sprint planning, backlog grooming, and agile ceremonies to ensure delivery velocity and clarity.

+ Advocate for and implement modern development workflows using tools likeBitbucketand Azure DevOps.

+ Participate in architectural decisions and provide hands-on technical support where needed.

+ Monitor project progress and proactively resolve technical and personnel issues.

+ Contribute to strategic planning and roadmap development across multiple digital products.

Management Responsibilities

Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience building or supporting AI/ML-enabled applications.

+ Knowledge of infrastructure, energy, or utility domains.

+ Experience working in a matrixed or enterprise environment with multiple stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or associated experience.

+ 7+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.

+ Proven experience leading Agile development teams in delivering cloud-native applications.

+ Familiarity with cloud services in Azure and AWS, such as Azure Functions, App Services, Cosmos DB, Blob Storage, as well as AWS Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, and S3.

+ Experience with Bitbucket (or Git-based tools) for version control and CI/CD integration.

+ Strong proficiency with Azure DevOps Boards and Pipelines for work tracking and automation.

+ Solid understanding of full-stack development technologies (e.g., React, Node.js, Python, Java, etc.).

+ Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.

+ Demonstrated ability to attract and retain technical talent.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

+ Typical office environment with a hybrid work schedule: 3 days in office and 2 days remote

+ Sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
