*Description*
*Purpose:* As the Coordinator of Safety and Emergency Preparedness, assumes a leadership role in advancing the safety and emergency preparedness compliance and efforts for the Hospital. The coordinator develops a safety and emergency preparedness planning initiative in coordination with county and state regulatory and/or governance entities. Together with the leaders of the safety/environment of care and emergency management committees; maximizes the effectiveness of a comprehensive safety and emergency management plan and process for the Hospital.
*Essential Responsibilities:**
1. Ensures the Hospital is prepared to effectively manage an emergent event based on timely vulnerabilities and/or risk assessments
2. Chairs and maintains the agenda and minutes of the Emergency Management Committee
3. Maintain, review, and update the hospital�s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plans, Emergency Operations Plan, and other applicable planning documents ensuring alignment with Joint Commission Standards, CMS requirements, and state/local emergency management procedures.
4. Serve as a point of contact for coordination with local emergency services, public health agencies, regional healthcare coalitions, and other community entities, ensuring effective communication and collaboration for preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation efforts.
5. Facilitates training and the planning, implementation and evaluation of exercises and drills to test and improve readiness, including writing and submitting of after-action reports
6. Perform any additional safety duties as required by outside agencies or as directed internally.
7. Responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance related to safety and emergency management, including Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, regional and state public health/emergency response and others
8. Assists with the effective administration and management of the New York State Hospital Emergency Response Data System (HERDS)
9. Ensures the hospital and its members have the proper equipment to appropriately respond to emergencies identified in the Comprehensive Emergency Management and Safety Plans; including, but not limited to decontamination, communications, evacuation and surge
10. Coordinates the purchasing of supplies and services related to safety and emergency management
11. Assists with managing and processing of state and federal grants including payment requests and audits of submitted bills and invoices.

*Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:*
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Environmental Safety, the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS) and the four phases of emergency management: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

*License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:*
Successful completion of the appropriate FEMA ICS courses
Excellent working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and ordinances, rules, and regulations as they pertain to Environmental Safety and Emergency Management.

Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity
Occupational: Some occupational risk
Physical Effort: Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
