THE POSITION
Douglas County Parks - Park Maintenance Tech 1
Seasonal on-call, non-benefited positions. Working hours will fall between 7am - 6:30pm and will vary according to Department need.
Essential Job Duties:
+ Perform corrective and preventative maintenance work at parks, which includes: paint buildings, signs, tables, fences;spread rock, soil, bark mulch; epair playground equipment; clean boat ramps andrestrooms, restock restrooms.
+ Provide a variety of groundskeeping and landscaping duties, such as: plant, cultivate, mow, fertilize, spray, prune, vacuum and/or blow grass and leaves.
+ Operate hand power tools and light equipment. These may include: mower, tractor, and backhoe. Perform minor maintenanace and repair on equipment machinery.
+ Move picnic tables and equipment from area to area.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered. However, the following is preferred:
+ Six months progressively responsible work experience in park landscaping and maintenance.
Required:
+ Must have an Oregon Drivers license at time of appointment
+ Regular and consistent attendance during scheduled work is required
Physical Demands: Work is performed primarily outdoors in County parks, lands, campgrounds and recreational areas throughout Douglas County and may require bending, kneeling, hearing alarms and voice conversations, climbing through confined areas and/or in high locations, gripping with fingers and hands, lifting up to 80 pounds, operating power tools and light equipment with common exposure to paints and chemicals, pulling, pushing, shoveling, standing, stooping and walking on uneven ground. Work is performed in an environment which involves everyday risks or discomforts and sometime adverse weather conditions and possible exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, pollen, odors, wetness, rain, fumes, noise, machinery, traffic, animals/wildlife, violence and extreme weather conditions requiring safety precautions.
Driving Requirements: Position requires driving. Finalist will be required to provide a driving history that meets theDouglas County Driver Policy (http://www.co.douglas.or.us/hr/risk/safety/driving.asp) as part of contingent offer of employment.
SCREENING & EVALUATION
Background Investigation: While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass acriminal history backgroundcheckas part of a contingent offer of employment. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment.
Physical Examination / Drug Screen:Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen. Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy. To determine if physically qualified to perform essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
