    Parks Planner

     

    The Parks Planner (Project Manager Analytics Specialist 1) is a position within the Public Space Planning Unit of the General Services Department, a small team that manages all the parks and greenways planning for the City of Detroit. This position focuses on community engagement and project management for park improvement projects across the City.

     

    This position requires multiple skill sets associated with park planning and project management, including but not limited to community outreach, graphic design, mapping, data tracking, and public speaking. The applicant should be committed to equity and inclusion and have a keen interest in community building and the development of public spaces. Experience with community engagement, project management and/or planning is expected.

     

    Examples of Duties

     

    + Conduct community outreach with park stewardship and community groups

    + Coordinate public meetings for park improvements

    + Project manage the planning stages of park renovations

    + Perform equity analysis using demographic, health and environmental data

    + Manage parks and rec asset data in Cartegraph (GIS based platform)

    + Track grant funded projects

    + Generate project reports for funders

    + Create and update maps through ArcGIS and Adobe

    + Generate digital and print public-facing materials such as flyers, newsletters and website updates

    + Create and lead public presentations

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    Bachelor's degree with major in urban planning, data analytics, project management, business, management, organizational development, or a related field.

    Experience

    Project Manager & Analytics Specialist I - One to three (1-3) years of project management or data analytics experience.

     

    Equivalency

     

    Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirement of this position.

    Preferred skills:

    Applicants should have experience with the following:

    + Community outreach such as working with residents and/or neighborhood groups, preferably within Detroit

    + Graphic design and presentations, including experience with Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Powerpoint.

    + Data analysis and map creation, including experience with ArcGIS Pro

    + Innovative thinking

    + Program development and management, including programs with park partners

     

    Supplemental Information

    Evaluation Plan

    + Interview: 70%

    + Evaluation of Training, Experience & Personal Qualifications: 30%

    + Total of Interview and Evaluation T.E.P: 100%

    Additional points may be awarded for:

    + Veteran Points: 0 – 15 points

    + Detroit Residency Credit: 15 point

    RETIREMENT BENEFITS

    City Employees Retirement System

    As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

     

    • Completion of thirty (30) years of service;

     

    - At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or

     

    - At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

     

    • In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);

     

    - An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;

     

    • Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
