The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting opportunity for a Per Diem Research Associate 1, for the SOAR Fellowship Program, in Miami, Florida.

The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

+ Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

+ Participates in the publication of significant results.

+ Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

+ Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.

+ Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.

+ Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.

+ Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

+ Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.

+ Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.

+ Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

Experience:

No prior experience required

+ Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

+ Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

+ Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion, reliability and integrity.

+ Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

Completes clinical research and study-specific required training including but not limited to CITI Training, internal team training, and collection of biospecimens. Participates in recruitment of participants and obtaining informed consent by assuring that the participant fully understands their responsibilities and involvement in the study. Attends all weekly and monthly required meetings with faculty members and research team. Collects, organizes, and analyzes research data while assuring adherence to study protocols. Maintains accurate and up-to-date research records, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality. Writes research findings as abstracts/manuscripts and presents the findings at national/international conferences.

Department Specific Qualifications

Education:

Medical student (MS3 / MS4) or MD

Experience:

Previous exposure to research practices preferred, but not required
