Position: Municipal Attorney
Are you an experienced municipal attorney with a passion for transactional work, land use matters, and municipal law? A valued client of Robert Half Legal is seeking an energetic, self-motivated, and collaborative legal professional to join their team. This is an opportunity to work on a diverse range of municipal law issues while contributing your expertise to help cities and communities thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Advise cities on all aspects of municipal law, including land use and development, subdivision regulations, public improvement districts, elections, procurement, open meetings, contracts, ordinances, franchises, public records, and utility matters.
+ Draft, negotiate, and edit legal documents such as agreements, development and reimbursement contracts, Chapter 380 agreements, real estate transactions, economic development incentive agreements, and easements.
+ Work closely with developers, engineers, and municipalities to provide guidance on ETJ matters, annexations, and new developments.
+ Draft and amend city codes, ordinances, and resolutions.
+ Conduct thorough legal research on city ordinances and state regulations.
+ Review and approve agendas in compliance with local and state government codes.
Requirements
• Active license in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in municipal law, with a preference for expertise in land use and planning.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and persuasive legal documents.
• Proficiency in legal research and tools, as well as general office software such as Microsoft Office and document management systems.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse clients and stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel within the state as needed for client meetings and legal proceedings.
• High level of attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex legal issues thoroughly.
Education & Required Experience:
+ Licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Texas.
+ 2+ years of experience practicing municipal law required.
+ Preferred experience in land use, annexation, and planning matters.
Skills & Competencies:
+ Strong multitasking abilities, prioritization, and project management skills.
+ Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present persuasively and listen effectively.
+ Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and establish strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
+ Analytical mindset with attention to detail, sound judgment, and technical proficiency in document management, Microsoft applications, file and calendar management.
+ Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, client-service-driven environment.
+ Willingness to handle occasional in-state travel.
