    Position Description

    This is a Non-Civil Service position located with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.

     

    Provides individual and group counseling services pertaining to drug/alcohol or domestic violence treatment as well as case management to inmates. Performs related duties as required.

    Typical Duties

    Provides individual inmate substance abuse counseling services

     

    + Creates therapeutic assignments for inmate clients

    + Evaluates therapeutic assignments completed by inmate clients

    + Counsels’ inmate clients for crisis situations as needed

    + Assigns consequences to inmate clients for rule violations

    + Reports status to the courts as it relates to inmate compliance

    + Completes evaluation of prospective clients for admission into various programs

    + Keep updated documentation on clients from the time they enter the program to the time of completion

    + Use approved curriculums and materials to facilitate classes

    + Facilitate group activities and lectures pertaining to the appropriate programs attended

    + Obtain any necessary certifications required to teach classes offered at the Day Reporting Program

    + Drug screen clients in the Day Reporting Programs

    + Assesses clients at the court referral resources (i.e. probation, attorneys etc.)

     

    Facilitates group treatment activities

     

    + Lectures inmates on treatment-related issues

    + Facilitates group discussions about treatment-related issues

    + Conducts aftercare meetings for incarcerated inmates who have graduated treatment program

    + Develops ideas for treatment programs

     

    Provides case management for inmates

     

    + Provides phone access to inmates to contact attorneys, probation officers, etc.

    + Assists inmates in completing forms

    + Disseminates information to inmates on scheduling or policy changes

    + Contacts other agencies / departments (e.g., court personnel, time computation, HiSET program, family members, other law enforcement agencies) about inmates as needed

    + Assists clients in completing forms

    + Updates and audits files to document case management functions provided to the client

     

    Documentation

     

    + Create and maintain clients’ files in a timely manner

    + Follow treatment flow chart concerning client care

    + Updates files to document client’s treatment-related behavior and outcomes

    + Meets with clients to develop treatment plan

    + Completes screening and assessing of prospective clients for admission into treatment

    + Completes clinical staffing on each inmate client to identify problems and therapeutic interventions

    + Completes continuing care plan with client to set post-treatment goals

    + Completes discharge summaries to document client’s progress while in treatment

    + Updates and audits files to document services provide to clients

    + Report program data monthly to supervisor

    + Documents all individual and group interaction with clients

    + Documents client’s non-compliance within the program

     

    Maintains institutional safety

     

    + Escorts clients to and from programming

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED/SUPERVISION RECEIVED

    This is a non-supervisory classification.

     

    This classification receives general supervision from a program manager, who monitors and assigns case loads and provides assistance with any unusual or exceptionally difficult problems or circumstances.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    This classification works in correctional setting within a secured area. Working directly with the offender population on a daily basis may result in exposure to unruly individuals. The environment is an office setting under generally favorable working conditions that involve the everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places.

     

    While this job is predominantly sedentary, tasks may require some walking, standing, bending, carry of light items, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform work

    Minimum Qualifications

    Must have a Bachelor’s Degree. Preference will be shown to those with counseling and/or case management experience.

     

    Preference will be shown to those who hold a license in the social science field (i.e. LPC, LADAC, LCSW, etc.) In lieu of current license, candidate must be within five years of obtaining licensure.

     

    *This position will require the person to complete certification in BIP, Prime for Life and Prime Solutions certification trainings.*
