PURPOSE:
Sets organizational goals and fosters a culture of innovation within a team of engineers and data scientists. Bridges the gap between strategic management and technical staff. Collaborates with senior management to develop team goals and implements new strategies to align with business needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leadership & Strategy:
+ Develop and execute a data engineering strategy that aligns with organizational goals, emphasizing agility, scalability, and technical innovation. Partner with data leaders to ensure our data platforms and processes support current and future needs.
+ Promote best practices in agile methodologies, driving continuous improvement and efficient delivery of data pipelines, services, and solutions. Champion modern DataOps and CI/CD practices to shorten development cycles and maintain high-quality standards.
Data Engineering Execution:
+ Oversee the design, build, and maintenance of secure, high-volume data pipelines across multiple systems. Ensure efficient data ingestion, processing, and storage to support real-time and batch analytics use cases.
+ Drive the design, build, and launch of new data models and data pipelines in production, define and manage SLAs for all data sets and processes running in production.
Platform Engineering & Operations:
+ Manage and optimize data infrastructure on Azure, incorporating solutions such as Snowflake, Databricks, Informatica, and SQL-based tools. Oversee the adoption of newer development practices, streaming pipelines, and related technologies to build robust data products and services.
+ Monitor platform performance and availability, proactively addressing issues to minimize downtime.
People Management & Development:
+ Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of data and platform engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. Develop career paths and growth opportunities within the data engineering domain.
+ Provide clear direction, performance feedback, and professional development for engineering teams. Encourage a collaborative, agile environment that embraces continuous improvement and innovation.
Continuous Improvement & Thought Leadership:
+ Stay current with emerging data engineering tools, trends, and best practices. Advocate for state-of-the-art engineering approaches and evangelize the value of data engineering across the organization.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position manages people.
QUALIFICATIONS:
**Education Level:** Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field OR lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
Experience:
+ 10 years Related professional experience.
+ 5 year Supervisory or demonstrated progressive leadership experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
+ Strong background in building and supporting scalable data pipelines (real-time streaming, batch processing), data APIs, and integrations. Thorough understanding of data structures, data modeling, and schema design.
+ In-depth knowledge of Azure ecosystem components, Snowflake architecture, Databricks runtime, MS Fabric architecture, and best practices for large-scale analytics. Proficient in SQL, Informatica IDMC, and Python for data transformation, automation, and analysis.
+ Skilled in leading iterative development cycles with measurable outcomes. Ability to adapt and respond quickly to shifting priorities, ensuring minimal disruption and tying team work through to business outcomes.
+ Capable of guiding teams through complex challenges, while empowering them to innovate and grow.
+ Proven data literacy the ability to describe business outcomes, data uses, data sources, and their management concepts, as well as analytical approaches or options to all levels of the organization in both business and technical roles.
+ Effective in forging strong relationships with cross-functional partners including Data Governance & Architecture, Data Product, Analytics, and business stakeholders.
+ Experience in strategic technology planning and execution, including user guides, use policies, user acceptance, and support/maintenance.
+ Experience applying Agile, DevOps, or SAFe principles to large-scale data engineering initiatives.
+ Knowledge of healthcare payers, providers, pharmacies, and community health businesses is preferred.
**Salary Range:** $136,720 - $253,787
