    Responsibilities

    Performs or provides assistance for activities related to the general accounting systems and records by performing the following duties.

    Accountant I:

    1. Performs and assists with the miscellaneous accounts receivable function, including invoicing and aging of customer accounts.

    2. Performs and assists with the member billing function and related reports.

    3. Performs the purchase requisition to purchase order conversion within the accounting software.

    4. Data enter and post accounting information to ledgers, journals and other books of original entry.

    5. Performs and assists with the preparation of journal entries for multiple companies.

    6. Performs and assists with the accounts payable, positive pay and MRES fixed asset accounting functions.

    7. Creates and maintains documentation of projects, data, and software.

    8. Assists with project tracking and reconciliations.

    9. Performs and assists with corporate credit card and other employee expense report functions.

    10. Provides assistance in the preparation of audit and other financial reports as assigned.

    11. Represents MRES in industry, development, and project committees, task forces, and conferences as assigned.

    12. Keeps abreast of relevant profession, industry, and inter‑utility developments.

    Accountant II:

    1. Performs all functions of the Accountant I position.

    2. Assist with training of functions.

    3. Performs and provides assistance for activities including collections, receipts, deposits, investments, and reconciliations.

    4. Performs and provides assistance with project and capital budget tracking.

    5. Performs and provides assistance in the preparation of tax, audit, budget, and other financial reports as assigned.

    6. Creates and maintains permanent documentation of projects, data, and software related to this position.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Accountant II:

    Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Accounting or related field and three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

     

    Computer Skills

     

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Internet software; Inventory software; Payroll systems; Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
