Lee County is now accepting applications for full-time Apprenticeship positions in our Facilities Construction & Management department. These positions are for motivated individuals who are ready to learn the trades of Electrical, Plumbing, or Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) through a state-certified 4-year program.
What We Offer

Apprenticeship Program Details
+ Duration: 4 years
+ On-the-Job Training: 8,000 total hours
+ Classroom Instruction:576 hours
+ Held 5–6 evenings per month (6:00–9:00 p.m.)
+ Location: Tri-County Apprenticeship Academy, 13830 Jetport Commerce Pkwy, Fort Myers
+ Certification: Nationally recognized certificate upon completion
+ Start Date: Employment begins in June; classes start in August

All selected candidates must attend an in-person registration appointment at the Tri-County Apprenticeship Academy between Monday, June 2, 2025 and Thursday, June 19, 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities
HVAC Apprentice
+ Learn welding, soldering, and brazing
+ Install and service compressors, refrigerant controls, thermostats, and pressure devices
+ Work with piping systems and various HVAC components
Electrical Apprentice
+ Learn the names and uses of tools and equipment
+ Read blueprints, pull wires, install switches, outlets, and service panels
+ Install electrical systems under the guidance of a licensed electrician
Plumbing Apprentice
+ Learn the care and use of plumbing tools and equipment
+ Install and connect different types of piping (cast iron, CPVC, galvanized, etc.)
+ Set up water heaters, fixtures, and appliances
+ Work on systems inside buildings and underground

Education, Experience, Licensing
+ High school diploma or GED (required by time of job offer)
+ At least 18 years old at the time of the job offer
+ Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

If you have retired from the Florida Retirement Pension plan you will not be eligible for renewed membership in either of the FRS retirement plan options. Retirees of the Investment Plan are eligible for renewed membership in the Investment Plan only. FRS reemployment rules apply for both.
