    THE POSITION

    DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    In this vital position, you will be tasked with creating and modifying curriculum, course outlines, lesson plans, and instructional methods for vocational education courses focused on a specific building trade or construction field, namely Landscape Design and Horticulture, for inmates at a state correctional facility. This role involves breaking down established trade skills into manageable teaching units to facilitate both individual and group instruction, encompassing theoretical knowledge and practical job skills training. Responsibilities include assessing inmate potential and progress through standardized and custom assessments, as well as grading their performance in both theoretical understanding and occupational skills. Additionally, you will be responsible for monitoring inmate behavior to ensure a conducive learning environment in both classroom and workshop settings, safeguarding instructional materials, and maintaining accurate records and reports related to class operations and inmate evaluations. Your work will be conducted under the general supervision of an administrator or principal, with performance reviewed through regular conferences and observations to ensure educational objectives are met.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

    + Full-time employment, 37.5 hour per week

    + Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

    + Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

    + Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $63,053.00 (before taxes).

    + This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    + Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in the specified parenthetical;or

    + If there is no approved apprenticeship period for the specified parenthetical, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in the specified parenthetical.

    + Please note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Landscape Design/Horticulture. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 2 years.

    + You must have p ossession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for the specified parenthetical;or
