The **Senior Accountant** will be responsible for performing complex financial activities in support of FEMA PA projects while ensuring compliance is maintained. This will include performing core accounting functions, performing audits, and providing strategic financial guidance to clients. A successful candidate should hold an active CPA license and feel comfortable with providing financial expertise to clients.
Candidates who apply for this position will be considered for **independent contracting** positions. In order to qualify as an **independent contractor** , the candidate must have an active EIN, registered business name, etc. Successful candidates will be required to obtain a FEMA badge; once obtained, that candidate is then eligible to be selected to begin work on projects based on client approval. This position will require the candidate to deploy to work at client sites as assigned.
Responsibilities for the Senior Accountant Include:
+ Lead the development and implementation of complex accounting policies and financial reporting frameworks for FEMA PA projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
+ Oversee and direct all core accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, and treasury operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.
+ Provide expert guidance on subcontract administration and ensure stringent financial compliance, while also leading the organization's affirmative action compliance and reporting efforts.
+ Conduct high-level reviews of loss documentation and complex claims, perform in-depth financial risk assessments, and develop strategic recommendations for financial mitigation.
+ Provide strategic financial analysis and consulting to senior leadership on FEMA PA funding and project financial viability, leveraging governmental accounting expertise for optimal fund utilization.
+ Lead and direct financial support for complex FEMA PA appeal activities, including intricate financial modeling, expert testimony preparation, and the development of persuasive financial arguments based on historical data and regulatory interpretation.
+ Mentor and supervise accounting staff, fostering professional development and ensuring the consistent application of best practices and ethical standards within the finance team.
Qualifications for the Senior Accountant Include:
+ At least five (5) years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related field. Prior work within the federal space is preferred, but not required.
+ Bachelor-s degree or higher.
+ Active Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) license required.
+ Proven experience in the full accounting cycle, from general ledger management to reconciliation and month/year-end close.
+ Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, contractors, and community members.
+ Excellent organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to act as a consultant and provide constructive feedback to clients.
Compensation for the Senior Accountant Includes:
+ Hourly rate range of $55-$85. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and training, licensure and certifications, internal equity, location, travel requirements, and other business and organizational needs.
