Position Profile
This role will be a combination of technical production and staff development and will closely interface with the associated disciplines of Sitework, Water-Wastewater, Water Resources (Stormwater) and Roadway. The Civil Engineer will collaborate with the project managers to produce the various deliverables required. Technically, the Civil Engineer will be called upon as a project engineer on tasks that include many fundamentals of civil engineering. Projects associated with this position include municipal infrastructure, major civil works projects, site development and design, water-wastewater planning and design, and roadway design.
A Day in Life of a Civil Engineer at Hanson
The **target candidate** will offer minimum of 6+ years of civil engineering experience with a PE in the state of Texas or the ability to obtain licensure within 1 year and be seeking an environment that offers both autonomous work circumstances balanced with the comradery of working as part of a team.
The **ideal candidate** will additionally have experience managing subordinate design staff, possess a practical project accounting knowledge and a verifiable ability to produce high-quality products within budget and on time. Additionally, the candidate should be able to function equally effective in both client-facing and internal-facing circumstances, and offer the desire, ability, and willingness to actively engage and network within the industry.
Here’s a snapshot of what you would do in this role:
+ Day-to-day task oversight and assignment of civil engineering design, perform engineering duties including project need assessments and justification, preparation of supporting calculations, authoring of engineering reports and technical documentation, and development and review of project bidding documents.
+ Perform construction administration duties including submittal review, review of contractor pay applications, evaluating construction progress for compliance with contract documents, and the direction of testing and engineering support personnel and subconsultants.
+ Coordinate and communicate field construction activities with client, contractor, and design team.
+ Attend and/or facilitate meetings with current and future clients.
+ Provide leadership to subordinate design staff, including mentoring, training, and production assistance.
What We’re Looking For
We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:
Technical Skills:
+ Familiarity with civil design practices with a desire, willingness, and ability to learn and apply the knowledge in new geographies.
+ Experience coordinating with private and public clients.
+ Experience interacting with peer disciplines including but not limited to architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, rail, aviation, and others.
+ AutoCAD/Civil 3D, ArcGIS, various stormwater, water/wastewater modeling software proficiencies is a plus.
Soft Skills:
+ Must be able to build productive relationships with internal and external clients.
+ Effective written and oral communication skills, including being able to communicate complex technical concepts visually, verbally and in text, to other engineers, clients, and public stakeholders.
+ Must be able to work independently and as a team member to problem solve and learn new technical skills.
+ Ability and willingness to assist early-career staff in setting and achieving annual goals.
Education/Experience:
+ A bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
+ A minimum of 6+ years of civil design experience as described herein.
+ Possess an active Professional Engineers license (TX) or ability to obtain licensure within 1 year.
The salary range for this position is $100,000 – $140,000 per year. Salaries are based on years of experience, skillset, and qualifications. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
