• Dental Hygienist

    UPMC (Pittsburgh, PA)


    **Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a Dental Hygienist to work at the main hospital location in Lawrenceville.** The Dental Hygienist, under general supervision, according to the established policies and procedures in accordance with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Dental Law, performs paraprofessional duties necessary to preserve dental health and prevent the spread of dental disease.

     

    This position has the potential to travel up to 5% of the time to Children's satellites.

    Responsibilities:

    + Give and receive accurate and complete information to parents and doctors while displaying professionalism and perform accurate and thorough charting of patient data.

    + Instruct patient and parent on the proper oral hygiene.

    + Take and develop radiographs of a consistent, good diagnostic quality for review by dentist.

    + Perform all necessary housekeeping procedures including keeping all work areas properly stocked. Manage spills and patient accidents.

    + Place topical anesthetics, rubber dam; placement of occlusal sealants using four handed dental assisting techniques if assisting is necessary.

    + Teach hygiene students from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine.

    + Page, greet and seat patient. Scale and polish primary and permanent dentition and apply topical fluoride. Prepare electronic documents including discharge summary and school/work excuse.

    + Maintain equipment and supplies as directed by the clinic coordinator.

    + High school diploma is required.

    + Graduation from accredited dental hygiene program.

    + Dental hygiene experience preferred.

    + Technical skills to perform scaling, polishing, chairside assistance and all dental hygiene duties.

    + Ability to interact with doctors, patients, families and students in order to obtain and relay information on hygiene status, as well as instruct dental students. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**

    + CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + Dental Hygienist
